McCain Bucks Republican Party to Support Gambling and Casinos

Both online casinos and land gambling interests may find John McCain to be
the more sympathetic to their interests, despite the Republican Party platform.

McCain Bucks Republican Party to Support Gambling and Casinos

McCain is just saying anything he can to get more voters on his side before Tuesday. His interests lie with OFFLINE gambling, so of course (if he gets elected) he's not going to support online gambling because it's going to eat into the profits of offline casinos.

ALL candidates say what we want to hear! Obama does it too!
EXACTLY Sassy!!

And to be perfectly honest here, NEITHER of the two; Obama and McCain,
are fit to be President, that is my opinion!

I feel the same way Jinnia. I don't care for either candidate.
i would have also liked to have seen someone else running for president instead, but i voted from my heart, not for the party but for whom i think would be a better leader to get us out of this mess, this is my own opinion, and i still will urge those who havent early voted to do so, it is your right and your opinion that will be heard at the polls, if someone doesnt vote they shouldn't bitch about it later!!!!!!!!!!!!

McCain didn't "buck" his party when it came to online casinos. In arguably his most important test this year he caved in and allowed very anti-online casino language to be inserted in the Republican platform.

I must have missed it, is there a link to this information? A video or quote of him allowing this?

I know the anti-gambling text was removed, then added back, but was it McCain himself who added it back?

No, I'm not able to give a quote, or say exactly how it went down. What I mean is, ultimately a party's nominee has to "sign off" on what's in the platform document. So if he wanted to stand up for the rights of online casino players, he missed his chance.

I agree with Winbig.

Traditionally, support of land-based gambling is the same as opposition to online gambling. John McCain is not about to support online gambling, take my word for it.

Don't expect McCain to buck his party either - highly unlikely.

And you know this by.........??
...by what has been stated already in this thread. Think about it.

If McCain wasn't able to stop his party from declaring its support for "the law prohibiting gambling over the Internet," how is he going to have the political courage to go against his party and sign a bill regulating online gambling if it ever comes to his presidential desk?

Ok, so it's just all speculation.

I'll repeat what I have said from day one, neither McCain, nor Obamba is fit to hold the presidential position!

McCain has direct undisputed ties to Foxwoods Casino.
Foxwoods casino gave Millions and millions of dollars to Jack Abramoff to bribe elected officials make online gambling illegal.

Jack Abramoff and several congressmen are currently in prison over this Foxwoods bribery directed against online casinos.... And again McCain has Direct undisputed ties to Foxwoods and to Jack Abramoff.

Lots0, is that your grand-daughter in your avatar ??

Nicely done, Lots0.

McCain may have positioned himself as a maverick - as one not afraid to stand up to his party or against what he believes in - but he is no maverick.

Obama may not be any better from the perspective of the online gambling industry, but he certainly has a lot less back-scratching to do than McCain would have had. That alone gives me hope that he will have an open mind.

Just because McCain plays craps doesn't mean he supports gambling (of any sort) - and just because Obama is a poker player doesn't mean he supports gambling either.

All I know is that I believe Obama will be more in tune with the times.

I'm just glad that it appears to be a clean and clear result which will spare the world the grinding unpleasantness and suspense of recounts and hanging chads!

And strength to the new guy's arm - he's got an awful lot to contend with right from the get-go.

It's kind of hard to contest a 189 (where it stands now) electoral vote loss....:D

That, plus a 5M+ popular vote win....:p

But anyways, yea, it's gonna take a lot of hard work and many years to fill the hole the Dubya dug for us.

Are there any figures available yet that indicate what percentage of the voting population turned out?

That's going to be an interesting statistic, especially if there's a demographic breakdown - I'm particularly interested in seeing how the age demographics worked in this election, where so much use was made of modern communication channels and techniques for getting folks out to vote.

Here's a list of the exit polls:

Haven't seen any firm numbers yet, but from what I've been hearing the turnout was very high, and I expect when the numbers are firm, you will see a significant increase in most age groups, especially amongst the younger generations.

I went to bed after Pennsylvania had been added to the Obama tally - was going to wait for Virginia and Ohio but Obama was already over 200 so it was essentially a done deal.

I woke up seconds after he gave the victory speech... LOL... after searching high and low for a video of the full speech, it was nowhere to be found on CNN - go figure. BBC had it though, and so did Sky.

As many commentators have pointed out, the vote was largely a vote against Bush - and by extension McCain the "maverick" - but Obama was popular nevertheless and possibly could've won the election even without all those things in his favor (Bush, plus poor economy). Certainly the younger voters rallied around him - the 65+ generation predictably supported McCain.

Actually, here are a few numbers -
