MALAYSIAN MANAGERS IN ONLINE GAMBLING BUST

Using WiFi hotspots for gambling can have consequences....

Police in Penang, Malaysia busted a factory manager and two engineers taking a coffee break at the E-Gate complex....and using the free WiFi facilities to do a little online gambling and sportsbetting while they relaxed.

The trio, aged between 30 and 32, were picked up in a late afternoon police raid at the outlet, conducted after police received a tip-off.

"We received information that the outlet was crowded with people abusing the free Wifi access to conduct online gambling activities," said a police source. "Many of the patrons just grabbed their laptops and ran when they spotted the raiding party," the source said, adding that the owner of the establishment was warned not to let patrons use the free Internet service for illegal activities.

The fate of the three men was not known as we went to press.

So they'll arrest the men doing it, but not the person that made it possible? I thought the USA was bad...

Ignorance of the law doesn't make it right.

Great to see the Goverments and Police of other countries are concentrating their resources on arresting the real villains just like here in the UK.
I for one am sick to death of old ladies not paying their council tax and motorists travelling at 32mph in 30mph zones and people playing blackjack in their own homes.
At least now maybe the muggers murderers and rapists can go about their business without the fear of being harassed.

I used to think it was me that was going mad but now I know it is the World

If the USA really wanted a fight that had a good cause, they would head over to Africa....The story below makes me sick. It's not all that different than the BS that's going on in Iraq right now, and makes more sense to stop what's happening.

CAR children 'seized for ransom'

CAR refugees are jumping from the frying pan into the fire of Sudan
Armed gangs are seizing children for ransom payments in the lawless north of the Central African Republic, human rights body Amnesty International says.

Oh my this is so dreadful. It just pains me to my soul to read stories like this. It really is hard to digest just how different our lives are from those childrens lives simply by location of birth. It makes my minor little whiny inconveniences seem so trite. We must do more!

blood diamond is a great movie! it is helping to raise awareness about conflict diamonds and child soldiers. africa is a jungle!

LOL "Africa is a jungle" - that's one hell of a generalisation for a major and diverse continent. It's kinda like saying that America is all desert!

I lived in Butterworth, the mainland opposite Penang, for 9 years when I was with the RAAF. I do not envy the guys having to spend ANY time whatsover in a Penang gaol. I've seen it, but not as a guest of the Yang Dipertuan Agung!

Some penalties in Malaysia include being hit with a 15' length of cane, as well as the sorts of penalties our western judicial systems hand down.

"Many of the patrons just grabbed their laptops and ran when they spotted the raiding party," the source said...

Kind of a funny image entered my mind of some poor sap, dodging the cops as he runs around the building with his laptop in a FREE SPIN mode on Thunderstruck :p

"Not now!! Not now!!"

i meant it figuratively, like "it's a jungle out there". the fact that africa actually contains jungle terrain was supposed to make it humourous. i'll try harder next time.

Sorry, but I still take exception - it's still a generalisation that gives no credit or recognition to those countries on the continent that have not regressed to "jungle" mode.

get off it! what is wrong with generalizations? of course there are exceptions to every rule, but then in that case there must be an exception to that, that is, a rule with no exception, to be the exception to the rule that every rule has an exception.

"casino games have a house edge." sure, a couple vp and bj variants pay over 100% but the generalization can still apply.

the only nations in africa that do well are the imperial colonies, whose settlers used to rape the land of its resources for their own gain, including indigenous people that would be shipped somewhere to serve as slaves. yes, a scant few african nations have a somewhat stable economy, but without a doubt there is still much oppression and coercion. wow i had to look that last word up, and i definitely thought it was spelled differently than that.

Just read the africa story those stories are sickening.

In regards to the blood diamond comment, great film but far from the truth. That film gives the impression that the blood diamond market is much larger than it actually is. I have a very good friend in the diamond business I have known for years and he although slightly biased working in the industry tells me that film is very much exadurated. These days blood diamonds are not bought by major chains and you can check where your diamonds come from to, ensuring it is not a blood diamond you are buying.

Happy, in my opinion you have some very serious misperceptions on Africa, it's history and it's present, and it is rather sad that you trot out your skewed views about the continent on what appears to be limited knowledge.

Rob, the issue of conflict diamonds is an interesting one and thanks mainly to political pressure and the development of advanced laser etching and identification technology by the diamond companies it has been much reduced.

It still makes for a great movie storyline, though!

Unfortunately, whenever you have a commodity that combines very high value with great portability there will be theft and abuse, and diamonds (not just from Africa btw) fall into that category and have in the past been used to finance coup attempts and wars in which the innocent, as always, suffer most.

Having spent a lot of time in Africa (Egypt, South Africa and Angola mainly which is maybe not a fair representation of the continent as a whole) over the past few years, I too take exception to happygobrokey's misguided humour.

Yes, with generalisations there will be exceptions to the rule but I would suggest that there are too many exceptions in Africa for your comments to hold true. Would be like me saying that all Canadians are ignorant  because of 1 eejit out there ;) (I am not saying that by the way before the angry mob starts hunting me down)

Yup there are areas in Africa where atrocities continue to this day but let's not forget that Europe has had similar problems in the Balkan region in the last 10-15 years.

I know that forums (generalising here!) are used for putting opinions accross but think you may be better to drop this one rather than continue to argue an indefensible point any further!
