Let's Go For A ......

I have an idea. Lets build the world's largest salt water swimming pool about 200 feet from the ocean.

Ok, but first we need to finish installing the water fountain at the bottom of the Niagara Falls.

Because sharks can't fly over that strip of beach to bite the legs off the tourists? :p

So there's no need for the Fonz to waterski over any rogue sharks in there?

I've got a completely unreasonable fear of sharks so my first thought was that pool would be awesome for people like me - all the benefits of bathing in the ocean without the constant "OMG wtf was that...something just swam past me...OMFG is that a fin?" when I'm only up to my ankles in water. Or standing in the bathtub.

Sharks and salt water crocodiles....both of them scare the crap out of me.

We're lucky in the UK as all we get is basking sharks which pose no threat. In fact all we have is the viper (adder) and false widow spider which is only found near the very southern coast, to worry about. Get a lot of salt water crocs in Edmonton do you? :D

If anyone makes fun of you for being scared of sharks or crocodiles you just remind them that our species wouldn't even be here if it didn't spend the last million years evolving with an overpowering fear of anything that can eat us. They should be thanking you. It's not your fault their basic genetic programming is broken. Tell them to go ahead and be some fish's dinner. The rest of us with working survival instincts will stay here and continue propagating the species.

lol, maybe that's why I moved here. :p Seriously though, I've never lived near an ocean, so that's why I said my fear was irrational. The only reason I know anything about salt water crocs is the Discovery channel and the internet. And the only reason I know anything about sharks is because I saw Jaws when I was young and still love a good (or bad) shark movie.

Let the propagation commence!

I am surrounded by Sea water and since we get something like 9 months of hot weather, its almost impossible to stay away from the beach. I do not fear any shark attacks coz we dont have any. We do have jellyfish though (not the deadly kind) and they can give you a nasty sting. My LO was bitten this summer (my worst fear came through) and it was 3 weeks of hell as it must have been the biggest one around and made quite an impression on her little feet. Dont know what I am going to do next summer...the ocean is always better than pools (infections and all) but I cant risk her getting bitten again. Miskina (which means poor baby in maltese)
