Legal U.S. poker is on it's way!

The N.V. state Gaming Control Board in February will begin taking applications to license companies to operate Internet poker sites, according to a state gaming regulator.

Mark Lipparelli, chairman of the Control Board, told industry professionals attending the two-day U.S. Online Gaming Law conference at Aria last Thursday that the agency would be geared to begin investigations that month.

I believe Nevada the gaming capitol of the world, will be the first state to legalize online poker / gaming, and demonstrate to the rest of the country how it would need to be done with great success. After it's approved there I'm sure their initial regulations will get tweaked early on, but would soon become the blueprint for all other states to follow if they want to share in the revenues.

In addition when the federal law approves intrastate legislation, this would also give Nevada the experienced reputation and opportunity to capitalize on being the first at an all you could eat buffet. When other states jump on the band wagon they would most likely be playing second fiddle to Nevada, just like today when comparing B&M's.

We already have one form on online gambling in Nevada. Online sports betting is legal. It looks like intrastate online poker is going to happen around April. South Point already has a play money online poker room running. I am sure others will follow.

I checked out South Points free poker site, looks like they're gearing up for live action when everything goes legal.

I see they're incorporating some of the same requests within their T & C's and Privacy rules as offshore sites. Although, I thought it was illegal for Nevada businesses to share personal information via the internet unless it's encrypted, so I was somewhat shocked to see them requesting ID and other doc's in an unencrypted way on their Web site.

Maybe I'm reading the law wrong but it's clear they can't send a person's personal information to another party unless it's encrypted, so common sense would say they shouldn't be requesting personal information from a player via email unless it's encrypted.

A few other states have adopted this law too. I've attached the Nevada encryption requirements.

If you are asking about Nevada there is already online gambling allowed on intranets within casinos. That is as far as it goes and considering how widespread gambling is in Nevada, I doubt there would be any push to make it statewide. You can already play slots at the grocery store, drug store, gas station, bars and casinos, why expand that to the internet?

If you are asking about the rest of the country I would say there is virtually no chance. I see that you are in TN. TN is one of only three states that does not even have charity bingo. I doubt internet gambling in any form is coming there any time soon. The only thing being considered nationwide is online poker and states would have to opt in its current discussed form.

Very good question but no definitive answer. States are discussing online poker, online games and virtually everything.

Once the hole opens up everyone will follow, hang in there.

Jersey (Atlantic City) is always another to think about and then there are the other progressive states that could pop shortly after someone else goes first: Iowa, Florida, Minnesota, Maryland. They all want to do it but no one wants to be first.

Nevada Update - Online Poker

Nevada is positioning itself to become the first state to allow Internet-poker games within its borders, a move that comes as online-gambling laws are being debated in statehouses and in Congress.

The state's gambling regulator will vote Thursday on rules that would allow companies to apply for licenses to operate poker websites in Nevada.

Around 3pm PT history was made at the Nevada Gaming Control Board in Las Vegas. In a 4-0 vote, the Nevada Gaming Control Board adopted internet gaming regulations. These regulations legalize online poker in the State of Nevada. These regulations also allow for licensed online poker operators in the state to offer interstate online poker should the federal government give its approval............

888 has applied for a license, they are offshore. IGT has applied too and they own Entraction, a European online poker room. The only requirement appears to be that an active company operation must be in Nevada. Also yes, this will not apply to any game besides poker.

My guess is that companies that have violated US law by providing gambling to US citizens will not be allowed to participate in legalized gambling here in the USA. We might just be better off, but time will tell. I would love to have Microgaming back.
