Any suggestions please.
Switched laptop on earlier, windows logo came up as usual and fan and harddrive working.
Then nothing, just a black screen with a dim back light to it.
Tried start up repair, no joy.
System restore, no joy.
Scanning in safe mode, nothing found.
Its a Toshiba satellite pro with windows 7.
Suggestions appreciated as I cant afford to be getting a new laptop
Cheers

My worst nightmare. It does sound like a graphics card problem perhaps? Once they croak it's going to be a right pain to replace in a laptop I imagine. But without an actual diagnostics check it's a bit hard to pinpoint.

Sorry to hear nonetheless, I hope that more tech-savvy folk round here will know

Sounds maybe like a backlight faillure from the LCD screen?
Did you test it by connecting the laptop to an external monitor?
If the monitor gives you a working screen then above issue might be the problem m8.
If it doesn't work it might be a hardware issue on the laptop with the GFX card / GFX module.

Sounds like the inverter (converts DC battery to AC which the screen needs) may have gone. Not cheap and not worth doing on an old laptop. This may explain why Safe Mode works.

Try taking out the battery and putting it back in. Then press shift, F8, and the power button at the same time.

If this doesn't work try turning it off by pressing and holding down the start button. Next, unplug the computer and remove the battery. Press and hold down the start button for about 60 seconds. Release the button and plug in the computer. Do not put battery in yet. Press the start button and the display should return. Replace the battery. If this does not work, try it again up to four times. Getting no results usually indicates a bad motherboard.

Cheers Dunover.
No, still the same after trying that.

Try running msconfig from safe mood. To do this click start then type msconfig into the search bar or use the run command.

You can then click the boot tab and check the base video then apply and restart in normal mode this.

If this works then try updating your graphics card driver.

Cheers, will try that later on.
Had enough of it now, doing my bloody head in

back light replace led screen

def a back light prob it has all the sounds of it they tend to die out after 4 years of use depending on the gen and use
The good news is the display panels for most Toshiba from the win 7 era are cheap its even worth buying one for parts and using the lcd screen there not really that hard to install.
If you Australia based let me know i might have a cheap second hand one i tend to keep alot of parts.

Its not a lcd screen etc. problem if it works in safe mode it would be dim all the time. If the windows logo is being seen then blank screen its a graphics driver problem with windows, start in safe mode, revert your video graphics driver or search for and reinstall one from the graphics card site. This is 90% the issue, but ya without seeing it dunno.

Should ask, is it blank screen with your cursor visible? Then different cause, explorer.exe is not starting properly.

No there wasnt a cursor visible.
Proper Fucked it now anyway.

Jeez, its amazing how much you take stuff for granted.
Im bored shitless.
Now on day ten of not depositing, but not by choice now

Which mean you soon will have saved enough for a new computer:D

I have two desktops and one laptop and I still don't deposit. I'm happy to have other interests. I would happily have lend you one if you had lived closer though.
I hope you will find a way soon:)

Got a couple of coastal trips coming up soon, so thats not too bad.
If laptop had conked out a couple of weeks ago, wouldnt have arranged the second one.
Got a mate coming over tomorrow or Thursday to take a look at it, so fingers crossed.
Thanks for the offer though

You'd be surprised how much you won't miss gambling after a while, even if not out of choice. It just means that option has been briefly taken away from you and now you can catch up some other interests (always a good thing).

And yes you'd be surprised how much you've already saved from not gambling. You're probably about a third or halfway towards a new laptop already

And I can now safely say that if it had been a backlight problem you could have just sat by a lighthouse (too soon?):eek::axeman:

Hope you get it sorted soon anyway JD

I keep seeing things about a casinomeister app, but cant actually find one.
Using a really old sony ericsson phone to come on here which only runs on java apps, but its actually easier to use on here than my samsung

Getting a new laptop next week.
Sticking with the same model but with a better processor.
I really liked it and will have plenty of spare bits then.
I borrowed my father in laws laptop a couple of weeks ago but it wasnt much good for playing slots.
4 weeks since I made a deposit, and havent missed it one bit.
Although have played a couple of free spin offers
