I just bought one of these - AMD FX-6200 Zambezi 3.8GHz (4.1GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor. :D
And a new motherboard with 4 memory slots that will support up to 32 gig ram and 6x SATA 6 Gb/s :D
And some ram - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1866MHz :D
I won't bother with the other 16 gig ram just yet.
And I'm happy with my 1 gig HD video card. I'm not much of a gamer.

Now I'm shopping for a new case with lots of ventilation I see one I can vent out the top, side and back. I like that.
I also see a 240 gig solid state hard drive I haven't picked up yet. I want to run my OS and 3DS Max on the SSD.

I ordered the stuff I already bought. I'm going to buy the case and SSD locally.

I'm really curious to see how my OS runs on a solid state drive.

When I get all the parts I'll let you know. :)

Nice specs. Got me drooling...

I'd be interested to know how well an SSD performs in a desktop. Keep us updated. And pics of the innards and final machine would be nice. :D

I never thought of that but I'll take a picture before I put the covers on.

I picked up the new case and the SSD today. Now I wait for the rest to be delivered.

*Twittles thumbs.

Nice Rig!!

Sounds damn awesome!

I am a gamer and that rig makes me seriously jealous (apart from the card haha I have one of those and my system is nowhere near in that league.)

*Edit: Asked a silly question that you had already answered. Here's another: Where do you buy your parts?

Actually I'm probably going to have to buy another video card because I can only run two independent displays with mine and I have 3.

It's cheaper if you shop around and use what's still good from your old computer. My video card is fine, dvd writer, my old hard drive will be kept for storage so I don't eat up all the space on my SSD, my interior card reader will be kept, I'm pretty sure I have a 500w power supply if it's 450 I'll get a new one but I'm too lazy to take it apart yet and check. Good luck finding a system with every single part exactly what you want. The only way I've found to do that is buy each piece myself and assemble it.

Cool beans Skiny. Faster rig should definitely help with your 3D graphics work. I look forward to seeing your next project.

Also hoping it was a nice slot win that sent you on a shopping spree. But a decision to buy something you want instead of a few deposits is good too.

Well, some of it was. I kept about 400 from withdrawal from Bet365 that'll pay for about half. :)

Oh, I didn't forget what VWM said about these SSDs not lasting like an HDD so I got a 3 year warranty on it. Straight in store replacement. So I'll have to make sure I back up what's on it for a while just in case. I have an external 500 gig for back up.

Ok, I'm done. Somewhere in this mess is a 6 core processor (3.8 Ghz each), one 500GB HDD (storage), one 240GB SSD (OS and programs), 16 GB ram, two 1 GB video cards. (Up to 4 independent displays.) :D

Installed Win7 from a USB stick to the SSD in about 8 minutes.

I've only just started installing the rest of the software.
