That is interesting and I actually think it's a good idea. I too have left uncashed slips in my pocket and thrown them away later, because of expiration, mind you these are not above $1.
But I could see that this would be a good source of state funding that could benefit our states we live in.
Afterall, I don't mind them claiming what I have discarded, it would be better than them claiming huge taxes on what I keep.

Kind of like, when in need, search through the sofa for the loose change.
 
I found it interesting that the average was as high as $5.50. I've had a lot of slips since the change over, but I don't think any over $1.00.

Still, even 1 or 2 cents add up when you are talking millions of visitors to somewhere like Vegas.
