The wild desires on 'A' were also much better (mostly 2 reels and 'big wins'), the whole 3 I managed on site 'B' were all one reeler's and either nowt or 0.5x

Seriously tho Jon mate, come on now, you KNOW how this game plays. You really should not be shocked at the polarising results or what I would call "the night and day differences" that this game is capable of. I mean, there was that post I just did in the WD thread. But I've had a recent session of IR at GUTS where I got 7 WDs within the first 200 spins. A few 2-reelers and the rest were 1-reelers. 4 zero wins and the rest gave me only 3OAKs and 4OAKs. I was shocked I could get so many WDs in such a short span, but I wasn't shocked at the poor pays. That kind of stuff happened to me regularly during the period that yourself and Nicola would refer to as "the good old days". Those "good old days" have not gone mate, it's just a case of other people maybe "getting their long overdue turn to win" now? If you let past performance shape future expectations, then you will likely be disappointed. Look at DOA for example, you can go from a big hero one month to an even bigger zero the next month on that game. You'll still go back to it though.
IR is no different in that respect. I would say without a shadow of doubt that IR is my favourite game at the moment, but I get more than my fair share of "humbling" sessions in amongst the good ones. No matter how good I run on it, I know a bloody great beatdown is never far away.

At the end of the day mate, it's random. And where there is random, there is the possibility of exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. And plenty in between.

I can offer some input into this thread.

Immortal Romance has an RTP of 96.84% which is on the high end for Microgaming slots. (Note: Video Slots theoretical RTP is probably inaccurate.)
I think this is because of the high variance of the game. Casinos make more profits from the high variance slots because it takes more spins to hit wins, so they don't mind adding a little more RTP. For example a low variance slot might hit it's RTP @ 1 million spins whereas a high variance slot might take 50 million.
People who are familiar with 3Dice will notice that the high variance slots there have a higher RTP and that's probably for the reason I gave above.
To further explain this idea: anyone familiar with land based casinos would know that it's common practice for casinos to have a high RTP (relative to 1c slots) on $1 denomination slots.
If you imagine betting $1/spin on a game that has a return of 97% as opposed to betting 20c/spin on a game with a return of 95% you can see how the casino profits more from the the 97% game. The high variance slots have the same effect.

There are a few other reasons I can think of why high variance slots opposed to low variance benefit the casinos more than the players.

A good session on 32Red in the early hours today with the 100% to £50 bonus.

After an awful run last weekend I hit a WD with the first 3 reels wild and 5OAKs on 10s and Js on a £1.50 bet. (Sorry, didn't get a screenshot)

Then a few spins later another WD with only reel 2 wild which paid a modest amount, then a few spins later another WD with only reel 1 wild which paid a modest amount. Then on the very next spin another WD with reels 1 and 5 wild which paid nothing.

4 WDs in about 20 spins and two of them back to back! Never known that before!

Yes there is a huge win potential but in all my gambling life... I am used to see players always sticking to the more frustrating games. They keep spinning and spinning... Swearing...
