I'm an idiot. So far I remain a lucky idiot

It has been a lot of years since I felt my gambling was was out of control.

It was at for a long time in my past, and here online it's been less so.

Many times over the past few years I've said it's worse when you are winning.

The first week, waiting to see if I'd be paid, and making plans, I couldn't even settle down long enough to gamble.

But that was a month ago, and I did resume playing. It's what I've did for years now.

But the cashout button got higher up.

I had a great weekend last weekend, but I blew back a couple of grand of a 8K win.

I was several hundred ahead and failed ro cash out.

My cashout button got shffed.

I gambled enough early friday to win a bonus prize at 32Red on the Valentine's Day promo. $480 in bonus funds, with minimal cash balance, I kinda had to play medium sized bets at least to begin. The worse I did was grinding some (well, slotmeister too) at 36 cents, did much better on bigger bets.

I've booked a trip to Cuba for leaving on Saturday. That will give me a week without gambling.

While I like to say you can't always lose, sure as shooting you can't always win.

I got the once in a lifetime gambler's hope for, I cannot blow it.

I haven't, in fact I"m up by quite a bit. But I put a big enough chunk into it prior to that. What should have been 6 months of deposits into a couple of weeks.

But I got lucky, and lucky doesn;t last forever.

I'm hoping a break will reset my mind as well.

You can always request your bank peter out the funds to you so that you can't spend more of it than you'd like (ie an allowance) or purchase a few bonds as back up
there's always closing accts of course - or setting limits.

But you're a smart cookie, you know all this. :) So have a good holiday, play some free turneys and stock the home bar and binge watch some good tv

You're aware of the potential dangers, and that's half the battle as I'm sure you know, Jas.

Enjoy your holiday and give gambling a break.

I detect you're a bit pee'd off at yourself Jaazy. So pee'd off in fact, you typed out the word "idiot" incorrectly. TWICE.

I'm sorry :p

But in all seriousness, I really hope that your enjoy your Cuba trip AND the break from gambling. It might just be the tonic you need to help you achieve
that mind reset.

I am sorry to read what you wrote their Jas, but I am glad you can be honest with yourself.

Please keep what you have and don't lose it back. Remember you cannot beat the house edge in the long run.

Stay strong, you are a good person and we all love you on here. Keep out of the winner screenshot threads, they are huge advertising for the casinos and do not present a reality.

It's a tough one, and as you said, winning is dangerous.

Maybe you should start playing at Videoslots. There you can set a Max bet limit, so that way you can get your playtime but won't lose too much.
You will keep playing so the important thing is to get back to enjoy even small winnings. Value the money!

Have a great week in Cuba. I know you like it there:thumbsup:

YES! Agreeing with the above posters (including yourself) and know that you can always Nudge me, when you need an ear, or an earful for that matter:D

Your much wiser than me most of the time, and i think a little break in Cuba could just do the trick, that is of course somewhat dependant on you not finding the nearest Fidel Castro sponsored Land based BLackJack Room! :D

But, don't worry, and if it makes you feel any better i've been doing the same (blowing back winnings as per usual) and i did it without the life easing win, so it can always be worse :p

I am saying with age, and experience or levels of excitement fade or change accordingly, don't think it's just the win. Perhaps it is a good time for you to stop for a longer period, since it could become harder for you to indeed "be satisfied" in lieu of that huge win on the Big Bet...

But, for now, the best thing would seem to just enjoy the coming holiday, and chill out..that always puts the mind to ease, and things in perspective for that matter.

Wishing you a fabulous flight and may the Cuban studs bow down, roll at your feet, and while they are there anyway, tell 'em to give 'em a good rubbin! :p

Well, you got the win many of us chase daily and have had the life- altering win. You'd be doing yourself and others here a massive disservice by playing it all back. We've all done it to a lesser degree, I'll happily fritter away £500 withdrawals in lots of micro deposits and then wonder what why I did it! So it's all relative, with the bigger wins you just feel like you can afford to lose more.

It's definitely a good idea to take a break, even if for just a week or so to help get some perspective. I've found it works for me, plus it is surprisingly easy to wean yourself off slotting, often though it is replaced by another vice more often than not.

Problem with compulsive gambling is that it supersedes just about anything else, real fast. Best to lay off that for a bit, take a breather and find out what was once your favourite pastime and take it from there. Gambling should be at the bottom of anyone's list!

Don't beat yourself up -- I think most of us would do the same That is why I have now set up a separate bank account with only a few hundred in it for gambling purposes only. It definitely helps control what I spend. Too dangerous withdrawing out of your main account.

You won't even think about gambling while sunning and sipping those mojitos. I am SO envious! Ahhh, sun, sand and cuban men. What more could you ask for!

Havana Club Anejo.

Thank you all for the sympathetic ear and words of encouragement.

It's tremendously helpful to be able to talk about it with people that "get it".

My big money is currently safe enough. Many of the home improvements need to wait until better weather. I have managed the cashout button a few times, it's more that it shifted.

I've talked often about how important it is to have a cashout goal when you begin playing. I know that years ago once mine shifted from $1000 to lower amounts, I did much better.

Yesterday was a holiday here in Ontario. I'll head out in today's storm to withdraw the money from my Visa, and make a deposit to my bank account. That will more than take me back to no money lost gambling since I received my big win. It seems hard to believe it's only been a month.

There's a few hundred left in ecopayz. It will still be there when I get back from Cuba.

I have a little money at Videoslots from the race, a little at Bet-at from some free spins yesterday, and a few rubies redeemable at 32Red. I won't have to do without playing entirely for the next few days.

I just need not to deposit.

Or make $5 bets.

Don't worry, I'll keep my head and make you proud.

I've always identified myself as an At Risk gambler, and I can't just deposit and deposit on a whim. Not unless I won the money from funds earmarked as such in the first place. I know myself far too well to risk that.

I'll close with a Stan Rogers song "The Idiot"
