I finally got an RTG to Install on my Vista/IE8 system

If someone has already posted this, I couldn't find it. I haven't been able to install any RTG casino on this Vista/IE8 (32 bit) desktop. No problems installing to my win7/ie9 laptop.

I would get an Error 2738 referencing the VBScripting everytime I tried to install any RTG casino. Took me forever to get around to really searching for a solution.

This worked for me:

This error message indicates that the VBScript engine is not currently registered on the machine where the install/uninstall is taking place.

The VBScript engine can be quickly registered by following these steps:

1. Run Command Prompt as administrator

1.1 Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories

1.2 Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator

2. If you are using 32-bit version of Windows:

Type cd %windir%\system32 into the Command Prompt and hit Enter

If you are using 64-bit version of Windows:

Type cd %windir%\syswow64 into the Command Prompt and hit Enter

3. Type regsvr32 vbscript.dll into the Command Prompt and hit Enter

4. Type regsvr32 jscript.dll into the Command Prompt and hit Enter

This implies the installer has assumed that these dll files are already registered, so does bother with this step. This assumption is true, except in the case of Vista. It is probably an oversight by Microsoft, as these components are necessary for a wide range of third party applications.

The majority of users would not trace this problem to this oversight, and would assume RTG software just cannot run on Vista systems.

Some third party system applications have tools that fix this type of problem by reregistering all dll files that should be registered on a properly functioning Windows OS. Such an application may well have picked this problem up and fixed it as part of it's general clean up and maintenance routine.

During the past year or so, I have been instructed by various RTG CS at various times to: reboot; uninstall (what?) and reinstall the casino; uninstall ALL RTG (there were none as NONE would install); use a registry cleaner; allow scripting in my browser options, and a few other things I've forgotten. And that's after I'd already tried everything I knew, including some of the above. I did not have a disk for the particular casino I was trying to install yesterday (grande vegas) as I had thrown it away ages ago. And I'd had no problem downloading and installing it onto my win7 laptop.

I prefer using my Vista machine when I'm home as it has the big honking monitor. :)

So anyway, if any RTG reps see this... how about passing the VBScripting registration fix on to your CS or techs? There are still a lot of Vista machines out here. Or maybe let RTG know so they can do something to the software installer to take care of this problem?

I'm using Vista and have had no problems at all installing RTG casinos.
The computer was totally clean from the start so I wonder what I have that you don't?
Strange it is but I'm glad you found a solution.

I am pretty sure that issuing this command for a file that is already registered has no ill effects, so it can safely be used in the install process whether or not the files are already registered.

I recall that under Windows 98, the key holding the registration pointers for all such files was limited to 64K, and unnecessary registering of files could damage an OS. I believe the problems were fixed with later OS releases to cater for third party software registering files.

Software uses this key to look up the locations of these library files, and in some cases, an unregistered dll library is as good as not present on the drive, hence the error when software tries to load it. This system means that software does not have to know where files such as this are located on each individual OS and variant, but can use a single universal function to determine where such files are, and access them without problems.

VBScript problems with 64bit Win7 PC.

Unfortunately I am still having problems installing RTG on a brand new 64x Win7 system. I have googled potential fixes, followed all the steps, but I am still getting the dreaded 'Error 2738: Could not access VBScript run time for custom action". Even Mousey's advice above didn't help.

I can run RTG in flash mode, but there is a limited number of games available, and most of the ones I play are in the download version only.

I will keep trying, but as RTG is not my platform of choice, it is not a major issue until I run into other software then requires VBScripting. Then I will be throwing my toys out of my pram.

I am sorry it didn't work for you. You did try the one for the 64bit? and there is a space between the cd and the first % in the first command.....

I do know this problem drove me nuts. USA players, if we play, are pretty much tied to using the RTG platform. :(

Good luck!
