How should you play slots?

As a long time slotter, I've seen the evolution or slots and the creation of many high variance games. I've long given up hoping to win back losses so I generally play slots with the hope of getting some decent playtime and hopefully a bit of excitement. I'm finding lately though that if I do a small deposit of £20 or so and play low stakes, I'm relying on a megahit on something HV. If I deposit bigger say £100, I get bored of the lower stakes and end up at £1-£2 a spin and inevitably the balances vanishes. There are so many new games coming out and yet I seem to end up back on the usuals, bonanza, doa, bod etc. I'm not sure what point I'm trying to make or what I'm asking but I feel as if I don't really know how to play slots anymore! Also, does anyone else have imprints of the streamers and their huge wins when playing? I'm sure that's one of their purposes for the casinos, make us mortals believe we'll hit like that too. E.g. Was playing primal at 20p today and was almost expecting a win to drop in akin Nick slots 26k win lol. I must be deluded.

Anyway rant over, take this thread in any direction you want!

I think the answer is to think about what you really want for your money. If you want play time, choose the games that give you that. There are plenty around. You're not going to win a life changing amount, but you should get the entertainment you seek. That's how I play most of the time. If you feel the need to win something big, then there are plenty of those slots around too, especially nowadays. Most likely outcome, however, is you will burn through your balance.
It's pretty simple really. You can't have both though.

Hi Flying Guy,

I can relate 100% to your post. I also do small deposits in the hope of getting a couple of good hits to increase my stakes and then play like the Famous streamers.

But reality kicks in when my balance reaches the inevitable Zero. (Until the next week begins, anyway).

And then, I think what a fool I was, for not getting out while the going was good as I have also being deluded by the Youtube Megawins
With the images off 5k 10k wins floating about, somewhere in the back of my mind.

Because sometimes on a lucky day from my little 20euro deposit, I have managed to grow my balance to 500euro plus. (As I am thinking this is my time now, as this is my chance to hit big, o how I have waited months or weeks for this joyful session).

But weather my own greed or thoughts of past losing sessions or the Big money streamers , come into play, I cannot say for sure but i guess it is a mix of everything.

Also to note on a bad day my little 20euro deposits, Can run into 10 to 20 off these in a few hours.

So, what I am finding out is that now, Dreams of the big hit and some life changing money, the chances are very very slim. I do not know why it has honestly taken me so long to realize this but i guess its getting caught in the moment. (Yet that moment is years and years long)

And now, what I find is what helps me anyway is playing at sites with tournaments and weekly races and also putting a daily limit on deposits. Because any winnings over that daily limit, Is obviously a plus but it also reduces any negative impact, if i bust out and all I can think is, I had a good run and enjoyed my session.

Unfortunately though, It has taken me 8 months of losing sessions without limits to realize this and come to this conclusion

Don't know if that helps you any with your situation but it has helped me to vent a bit :D

Thanks!

It does work the other way too for streamers. Most of them do publish their loss videos and some of those losses are huge (have you watched any of The Bandit's videos? Any streamer who constantly appears to win time after after time are not painting the full picture.

Oh I agree, I've watched him do that. Most of the UK ones just post these 5k bonus hunts and rarely post compilations of losses.

The bit that gets me is that they seemingly don't care about losses (bandit excluded here, he's a whole different category). E.g. Nick will deposit 2,3,4k per stream and when he rips just says that's enough for today. Craig is another one who I actually enjoy watching, but can't connect the dots when he says he's been at work all day blah blah, then sinks 2k into a casino. Unless he's a highly paid stock broker if you can afford to lose that amount and still have a normal day job something doesn't add up lol!

I don't want to open up another streamer debate btw!

I don't really watch streamers so i'm not dreaming about massive wins, but I think its about mentality.

I can only afford small deposits (£20 usually) so I play small stakes, mainly for fun, but if I end up hitting a big win and my balance goes to say £48, i'll play the eight and withdraw the £40. But sometimes while I play the £8 I get another decent win that might take me to £58, so I mentally reset my withdrawal line to £50 and carry on.

I've built up my bank that way quite a few times and withdrawn £100 by the end of the week. It also means if I do well for a while I don't end up busting out. Some of you might laugh at that but I play 10p or 20p stakes and only play as a hobby really anyway so I think its pretty good.

I think you've pretty much answered your own question!

First thing is, NEVER chase your losses. Accept that they are gone forever and you are starting with a "clean slate" - then you will be happy with smaller gains.

If you've read a lot of my posts (especially in Winner Screenshots) you with know that personally I prefer the low to medium variance games and hardly ever play high variance. I play games which I think are fun and I enjoy playing, rather than ones I hope will make me rich.
Yet I have turned £200 - £400 deposits into many £1,000 multiple times, and over £10,000 a few times too!
e.g. I turned £400 into £14,000+ in Sept/Oct at Videoslots.

Here are most of my wins over x100 for Aug, Sep & Oct where you can see what games I tend to play:
