I have accounts in NatWest and Barclays bank, but they refuse my deposit in the casino and even block my card . How to deposit and play? So far I have deposited with Monese, but they no longer accept deposits. How to deposit?

Talk to your bank. I'm with them and there's no issue at all so they must have a reason for stopping yours. A lot of casinos are now using PayPal so that may be worth a go

I'm with Barclays, and in my banking app i can see there is an option for blocking various merchants - gambling, restaurants, premium things... is it possible you have something like that switched on and thats why you cant deposit ?

I can't see such a thing, I have mobile banking at both banks. Where is what you are writing about? How can I find it?

If you look on barclays mobile banking app.. click 'cards' on the main page, then click 'merchant control' - in there.. theres different ones you can block - first is gambling.. id maybe check that page, maybe thats causing the problem possibly?.

Similar with NatWest. Go to your account, select “Manage my card and Apple Pay”, then “Card Payment Controls”. Scroll through, and you’ll find the gambling control is on. You can disable it, but you have a 48 hour cool off first.

If you don’t have the option, it’s likely your account doesn’t support gambling transactions, or the bank has put a permanent restriction on them. If that’s the case, you won’t be able to circumvent with PayPal or Skrill either and will need to discuss with your bank as to the reason for it.

It might also depend on where you're trying to deposit.
Neteller/Skrill etc blocked all deposits to non-UKGC casinos a while ago. I believe it was at the request of the UKGC.
Maybe the banks have been asked to do the same

I've always been an advocate of banks muscling in on Responsible Gambling controls, as it seemed to be the most direct way of curbing one's spending on such vices. In fact I'd be all for the UKGC 'mandating' all banks set up various options by default.

Not overly enthused at banks seeing that as a means of taking the customer's autonomy away though, and start regulating their gambling outgoings, as I fear this may eventually lead to.

I'd also imagine banks don't view customers that use these 'blocks' favourably, with credit scoring bound to be impacted in the long run. To them, these types of customers are probably just about 'tolerated', like mother-in-laws.

If these tools ever become fully realized however, then they can only be considered a boon for gambling self- control. But they'd better have a good reason for stopping my gambling transactions or else they may find some civilized hostility headed their way

I'm not at all for banks deciding on what you can spend your own money on. The whole nanny state thing is rancid. People need to make their own decisions in life.

Wouldn't be so bad if we weren't practically forced to use bank accounts to hold our wages when we're paid, but we are.

I'm definitely in favour of the customer having a banking option to decline every gambling transaction for, say, a month. It's a good way to give your finances a breather, should you so choose.

Of course this won't end up anything other than the bank eventually labelling customers problematic pariahs

Yeah, as long as the customer is the one with the decision making ability that's fine.

It should be noted that some accounts - usually referred to as “basic bank accounts” - are often set up to be restrictive. That’s their purpose - they’re designed for people that have trouble managing their finances, have no credit history, are bankrupt etc - they’re meant to stop certain types of transaction; you can’t opt out without changing to another account.

Some basic accounts were originally children’s accounts, and get automatically converted to an adult account, with the same spending restrictions in place.

My partner still has a Natwest 'Step' Account to this day, and yes, I mock her relentlessly.

Her cards don't even have contactless!

no offense intended but thats not there purpose at all basic bank ac's were brought in to help with people like me who had tremendous difficulty with proving things like

address and employment ie being self employed but under the tax threshold and havin no permanent address,

also a directive that everyone should have access to basic banking needs for paying bills etc etc, i have a natwest basic ac

its exactly the same as there normal currant ac but had i gone in and asked for a currant ac i would have been turned down,

but because i asked for a basic bank ac they were obliged to open one with much less scrutiny then normally required,

there are of course banking ac's for people who may have problems managing there day to day finances but there quite different to

basic bank ac's :)

I went to a live chat in NatWest from mobile banking and wrote to them that the ban on playing in a casino is RECOMMENDED, not mandatory. And that I should make decisions on how to spend my money. I pay regularly. all fees and taxes to the state, I work on a permanent employment contract and I think it is my decision whether to play in a casino or not.And oh, miracle! They unblocked my card and I have already made several deposits. My main account is Barclays and in NatWest my salary is not transferred.
