Hi All,

We are having some database errors, and one of the culprits is one of the scripts we've been using. Specifically the WTG button that is used in some forums - mostly in the Winner Screenshots forum.

In most of the forum, you can "Thank" people for their posts. When you do so, your reputation increases by 5 points. That's great. The thing is, years and years ago - when the winner screenshots threads began, some people were only posting there and not participating in the rest of the forum. Some people were getting bucket loads of rep points, but they were only posting screenshots <gasp> So I made the command decision to change that script in those forums and made the rep points you get there 0 instead of 5.

Well, years later it's backfiring. The Way to Go script has got to go. So I will need to turn this off. By doing so, all of those WTGs are going to disappear, sorry :(.

The upside is you won't be losing any points for it - at least that's some consolation. :D

And I will turn on the "Thanks" button for those screenshot threads, so you can now earn points there. :yahoo: Screenshots have become a big deal - and the threads are quite popular. And there is nothing stopping you from going back and thanking peeps for the screenshots that they've shared in the past.

Thanks for your understanding.

Wanted to WTG this actually, but alas... :p

Just wanted to share that i've stopped WTG'ing those screens and vid's, because i had missed loads of them in a row, on several occasions, and found myself doing exactly what you described Bryan..goiung back and WTG'ing all contributions i missed, at one time i missed so many, and was literally clicking and scrolling for half an hour or more..this caused me to get a severe RSI attack

Since then haven't bothered, since i would feel guilty about WTG'ing one, then missing another..
So i won't miss that button one bit. I think i have WTG'ed every single screenshot out there, which would add up to millions of clicks.. Perhaps i may sue you for indirect bodily harm somewhere in the near future

So you collect reputation for screenshots now?
Reputation points have always been the best way to evaluate members for me. That might get distorted when screenshotters get all those juicy reputation points too. Especially those that usually don't participate in the general discussion.

Here's the thing: it's now been put in favour of screenshotters whilst those who hardly ever post them get penalized.

Screenshots are great and all but someone could get 50 'thanks' with three screenshots in a matter of a minute, whilst it might take any active member 40 posts to get that. But you'll never hear a peep from the screenshotters....if you want to just post pictures then there's always Instagram and the like. The Thanks feature has now been cheapened and become pointless :(

Far better to have a 'Screenshot Thanks' row alongside the normal 'Thanked' section if you wanted to seperate both properly.

It's gone far too lopsided now on one side. Maybe even have no 'Thanks' at all for screenshots and leave that for members that actively partake in discussions and the like!

When asked about Casinomeister changes a while back this could have made for some good feedback, but alas, no.

I do not see any benefit one way or another about "thanks"? Do we get a blue peter badge or something? For me its just tipping my hat

I agree! To get points for posting a screenshot makes them points totally worthless in my eyes.

Maybe we could try removing the thanks button a while and see how people are behaving. Is it really that important?

The only way to get around this issue IMO is (if it were possible) would be to have a different weighting on the thanks for videos/screenshots say 1/4. I agree that with lots of important topics that many never contribute to as it takes effort, but they can simply chuck a photo in and be applauded equally somewhat skews things a tad.

A gold star if you must know.

But surely it's a form of recognition for contributions to the forum and discussions. Or are you saying the whole format for 18 years has been flawed and doesn't need it?

I've spent countless hours here and given something, many screenshotters have not and can't be arsed.

That's probably not a bad idea either

Maybe its just me but I am not really all that precious about my posts. I simply enjoy posting, getting feedback and learning a lot in here

I'll look into if there is a way to weigh points in each forum. There is a newer version of that plugin, so we'll see. :D

As for wondering what rep points do, they are an integral part of increasing your membership level.

Jesus man. Like I said, it's not really important but a feedback tool. All that's happened now is that those members that only post screenshots and nothing else will look to appear as though they've contributed in some significant way, when all they do is hit and run never to be seen again and certainly not adding to any particular discussion. Jokes notwithstanding

I've read some cracking threads over the years and still believe a form of acknowledgement/ agreement should be in place if possible. I may not always have the time to post my own elaborate and witty response and much prefer just thanking them.

Most forums on the net have this feature, but you don't see threads just littered with members throwing pictures at each other

Chill ya beans man. Is being the Casinomeister's equivalent to an international pop star and sex thimble not good enough for ya?

Casinomeister has always had the two factions since I've been here - the screenshotters and the talkers

It's a bit 'one size fits all' though and I'm not really a fan of the new format.

Change is always bad :( Casinomeister is ruined!!

I guess that means that people like jon and myself are "double agents", because we do a fair bit of both. And also do not forget that some discussional threads also contain screenshots...examples being "IR has suddenly gone cold", "last night on DOA", "the ultimate DOA thread".
And then there are those threads that come up when a new game has launched. While those threads are intended to be discussional, screenshots inevitably get chucked in there too. Such as the recent Buffalo Blitz thread. So when you think about it, quite a lot of us are in both factions, some a lot more so than others.

It's not a case of might, it's a case of will. Even as someone who probably "contributes" more as a screenshotter than I do as a talker, I don't like the idea that my reputation would increase with greater ease/less effort simply because I got super lucky on a few deposits every month and decided to go screenshot mad. It would actually (as goatie suggested) cheapen the earning of those reputation points. I would much rather get reputation points for expressing a smart thought or giving a well-considered and objective opinion or review on a certain game/casino/whatever.

Another thing that crossed my mind....potential for "abuse" of the reputation points system through screenshotting. Say you had a deposit where you had 10 "post-worthy wins". What's to stop the CM member from composing 10 posts with 1 screenshot in each (and getting 10 "lots" of thanks) instead of composing 2 posts with 5 screenshots in each (the maximum allowed per post) and getting 2 lots of thanks? That would massively skew how a CM member earned the rep power he/she has. And not in a good way.

Would a "screenshot thanks" merely be nothing more than a WTG with a different name? Given that the presence of a WTG has led to this problem, a "screenshot thanks" may simply replace the old problem with a new one.

As for "thanking" screenies, I'm not sure I'd like that, especially if I am on a losing streak. If anything, I'm more likely to want to say "thanks....for nothing" or "thanks....for pissing me off and making me go green with envy you spawny twat" :p Screw that idea already. Just let me congratulate/WTG them instead. Oh...hold on...I can't do that no more. Shit. :o

A good idea. However, I only agree with that from the screenshot side. Those who post videos actually have to put a lot more "work/effort" in (ie spend time recording, editing, uploading to YT). Apart from that, those who are posting videos are actually providing "viewing entertainment" for the CM community. In my opinion, that represents a considerably greater contribution than posting a mere (handful of) screenshot(s) and arguably it deserves to be weighted on the same level as posts in discussional threads/topics.

Put it this way, what would you rather "thank" suomikala for? Posting 5 screenshots or posting a winners video? It's a no brainer. Video....every time.
"DO NOT FUCK WITH ME GAME!"

Good point dunover. If possible just drop the reputation you get for posting in the screenshot section to 0 and keep the "Thanks" button.

But this is a better idea. No risk of skewing the reputation points in favour of the screenshotter and at the expense of the talker, but still enabling the community to acknowledge/applaud/congratulate a good winning hit.

I like the 'Thanks' button

It does what it says on the tin and makes me feel that I have shown appreciation for another members help :D

Couldn't agree more. WTG mate. Oops....I meant "thanks" :p

Actually I'd say that you & Jon are quite rare in that you do both quite frequently. Most members lean heavily towards one or the other, unless my eyes deceive me.

As for the likes of DOA threads and new slot announcements, yes they will invariably contain a multitude of screenshots within them. These are often accompanied by a few lines about how the session went or what people's expectations of a new slot might be.

Hence, I would still classify this as being interpreted as active involvement as opposed to just posting a screenshot in the WS and not much else, eg Rolastan.

Hmm.. slightly unlucky choice of words there Jon...as now you made me think about 'liking' the thanks button too..this can only be completely and truly achieved when Bryan implements the good old FaceBook like attached to the Thanks button somehow.

This will also create a deeper meaning to the initial thanks, and will hopefully lead one day to advanced scenarios where one post (like mine) is made, thanked, liked, thank-liked, shared and reposted on FB, and as such made a complete virtual life circle.

Other posts (like VWM's or yours) will instead be posted, thanked + thank-thumbs downed, ridiculed/unliked, but of course also still shared, and in their own way also completed.

There's more, as the layers of dimensions this could grow into, are pretty much endless, thinking about VR goggles, nanobots and smartapps, that will play an advanced role in the whole like and share phenomenon..

This of course all came to me in a dream, so it must be true

If you like this post copy and share, thank it (and like the thanks too), then tweet, retweet and backlink to O.P., WTG and promote on various social media and tattoo on your forehead

Firstly apologies for posting this here but as its forum functions related thought it may be better than a complete new thread.

It is in relation to the 'Helpful post rating' notifications.

Originally when you get such a notification, it would take you to a page of numbers (post numbers) and you'd click on the number and be taken to the post another member had awarded reputation on.

Now it simply takes you back to the forum home page.

Not a biggie for me really but thought worth mentioning

Just an FYI - we are upgrading the "Thanks" function and importing the old "thanks". Thus it is turned off for now until this has been completed. :D

It's going to take a while.

New question time for the new settings please. Appreciate anyone's time who can help

How do I stop e-mail notifications for 'thanked' or 'liked' posts I've made please.

Would ideally want to turn these off but still get notifications of threads which have been added to where I've posted or contributed.

It's in your settings:

Left hand side, scroll down to "DB tech Thanks" and change your settings there.

You should not be getting notifications for thanks. I'm pretty sure I turned that off in the back end. If you are getting PMs for being quoted, then change your settings in DB Super PMs. There is a lot you can due with your settings. You just have to look. :D

I did get an email for the first thanks I was given, but just a notification for the second so maybe it was turned of then. Changed my settings anyway just to be sure.

Sorted, Much appreciated

I'm still working on this - still needs tweaking. The Thanks count as 5 rep points, and the Likes count as 0. Likes will be in the screenshot forums - taking place of the WTG button which never had any rep value.

Thanks are turned on in some forums, in some they are turned off - in some both are turned on.

Hopefully tomorrow it will be more squared away.

LOL...I'm itching to thank you for this, but.....:p

BEWARE! DO NOT like a video when watching it otherwise the bugger will stop and reload, as liking refreshes the post you like unfortunately.....

Thanks to HarryBK for link but was actually looking for the orgianal link to the updates one the boss done and what we would like to see,

But as I am here I will add my share intrest,

I am still missing the thanks button and only have liked or the thumbs up helpfull,

I am liking the new design, with the short hand like doa (hover over and tells you what it means) as alot of people use this and others do not know what it means, as even I do not know what some are lol, So who ever thought of that one needs a shout out,

Also the one I pointed out about the onsite inbox, when click quoted it used to bring to the last post, But now brings you to that actual post :) I did ask for this myself as I was lost when trying to get to the actual quote,

I am getting emails about thank posts and help post? I this necessary? I have seen somebody above said how do you opt out, Well I am not bothered as normally in the email you have the opt out option, Unsure if thats been changed,

One major object is that the spell check is not accurate, As I am not the best speller I need this and sometimes it does not give the right options, I know how how most words words should be spelt, Just not senescence, I copy paste into a google spell check and there is alot more options, On here it does not bring the right words ups,

But other than that it seems to be going smooth

Happy Spinning

Edit::: I forgot, The points and that does not mean nothing to me, Unless of course we can exchange for free spins with 500x wager :) I here to help and to get help, The points ect to me is a pointless exercise from my view, I am not saying there are pointless, (excuse the punt) I know there to show that people are respected and to show that there been about and show trust,

Easy could of took the casino's stance and cleared them all for us

Using Win10 with IE11 and am unable to Thank or Like any posts. When I click on either nothing happens. Tried rebooting and still no better. Later on, after work, I'll try it in Chrome.

Just to follow up on this. All buttons seems to work just fine in Chrome. Seems it's my Win10/IE11 combo at fault - which isn't surprising...
