Hi everyone - long time occasional watcher here, first (serious) post!
For the life of me I can't join a tournament at any Microgaming site.
The most simple way to describe it is I go to the tournaments screen, with all the tournaments listed down the page
(where the game picture is to the right displaying the prize pool, entry fee etc.)
I double, quadruple, quintuple-million-click on the game list - nothing happens. No popups, no game.. just that same
tournament "lobby". I have also tried clicking "join" under the selected game's picture I mentioned before.

I have had no luck looking online anywhere, and I have bothered MG through a couple of casinos before. I followed
every step with a MG casino a long time ago - Java, Popups, Antivirus, Flash, Browsers.. When I went though these
problems back then it was futile - I just said thanks to the live chat person and said "I'll keep trying" or something..
because I bothered (through live chat again) at the same or another casino months later to see If I could try again,
and the response I got after a wait was "Microgaming have this matter with You recorded as 'resolved'. "
okay...

So I think it's probably 2 years since I first discovered I couldn't play tournaments any more.
Today I had time to completely reformat my pc, and start again. I removed every program and started again.
Just for fun I only used Internet explorer (9, then 10 when I could update it), and I installed new flash and java.
Same problem - not a single thing when I attempt to join a tournament.
After this I downloaded chrome and just set that to default and tried again... nothing.

Anyway - if there's anyone out there who went through this, or is a whiz, I would be so thankful!
I am using Windows 7, 32bit.

Thanks for reading.

Hey james, can I ask for some specific casinos where you have this issue and have you by chance tries grabbing a new one after this reformat, registering an account and trying with that?

also just in case, what computer or device did you previously use to create your accounts?

I ask because I have the issue you describe with about 4 of my mg casinos, and after long drawn out support requests eventually learned that at those casinos I had joined as a "mobile platform player" and as a result my casino account does not, and can not, have an associated tournament player account. Example off top of my head is all jackpots casino but can't think of the others as I tend not to bother anymore..

If it helps you should advise mg that you are not seeing the window requesting you set a tournament alias when double clicking a tournament for the first time and see if that points them in the right direction for you

Thanks Catapultaudio!

Yeah I am hesitant to bug them again - I get the feeling they think I'm crazy or inept when it comes to this issue.
I have played at many, but in recent memory (what I was playing before the reformat) - 32Red, Vegas Joker, Golden Riviera, allslots and Royal Vegas.
I know I signed up with Royal Vegas through my phone - which was a bad move as any "Calendar" promotion with free spins etc gives me an error there -
ie some number that translates to "not for those with a mobile account". All the rest are accounts through a pc only.

Yes what you mention is exactly what I was expecting to see at the tournement area - after clicking on a game after a reinstall or trying a new casino, a little
popup used to show with "do you have a tournament username" or something - If I could get even that to show then I would be getting somewhere.

Thanks for your time. I might bite the bullet and hassle them one more time - I guess it's all I have left.

Cheers!

This is a new twist.

For some time MGS have been telling us that accounts are interchangeable between platforms. To play on mobile, I would just log in with my PC account details, the same with the Flash based casino. Players have never been told that registering on a device other than a PC would permanently cripple their account from enjoying the desktop experience.

These tournaments have been bugged by problems for years, and no amount of badgering can get MGS to deal with it. As in your case, you wait for ages, no one ever gets back to you, the problem isn't fixed, but then you find out that almost from the start MGS dismissed the issue as "resolved" without even telling you, let alone asking for feedback.

This has lead to a few "unofficial" solutions to some MPV problems, but none of these would address your issue.

I have always registered on a PC, and although I have had many problems, being permanently unable to join has never been one.

If you have already gained an MPV alias at a given casino, and now can't join any tournaments, then this is nothing to do with account settings (mobile vs PC for example). It would seem that you have been blocked from the network for some reason as you can't get ANY casino to let you in. It's possible though that you have not been blocked by MGS, but by your own hardware or firewall. It might be a useful diagnostic to switch the PC and router firewalls off, along with security software and then fire up a casino and see if the tournaments work. Remember to switch these all back on as soon as you have done this test, whatever the result, and before you do anything else.

I have Windows 7 64bit, and the security software supplied by my ISP. I do know that on a fresh install, this has often tried to block the MGS Viper client and I have had to "always allow" on a casino by casino basis, or they just won't work. It's possible that your security software has notifications turned off, and has silently blocked access to MPV every time you have tried.

There IS a bug that can have all the tournaments showing, but do nothing when they are clicked on, but this is intermittent, and is something at MGS's end, one of those long standing issues that despite being reported, have never been properly addressed.

First thing to do is grab a copy of another 32 red casino eg dash, nedplay or golden lounge, create a new account and see what happens - I personally ended up opening my "mobile" mgs accounts when I spotted a no deposit bonus offer for a mg casino I had not yet tried, and signed up using a browser with modified user agent just to get the bonus, not having any idea of the trouble it would cause me down the line.

I have a hard time believing there is a system in place capable of blocking a user across the network if only because different accounts are used at each casino and the potential for cross match mistakes would be huge and generate A tonne of unnecessary support requests but it sure is strange you have the problem at ALL mg casino, and especially if you believe you already have tournament alias created at them too

Please try one of the new casinos I mentioned above with a fresh account, using the desktop installer, and we all go from there.

Oh one more thought, when you use the lost password function at many mg casinos, the screen you get after following the email link shows you seperate user I'd values for real, fun and tournament play even though only one is normally used to log in. Try this out with one of your non Working casinos and see if any tournament player shows on that screen??

Thanks for the new ideas Vinylweatherman and catapultaudio.

Well, I planned my total security shutdown - for a few minutes I had it all off - windows firewall, antivirus software and disabled the router firewall.
No luck with 2 of my mainstays 32Red and Vegas joker. I thought that'd be enough to get a yes or no from that exercise.

And then I created an account with Golden Lounge, switched back to Internet Explorer, even used an email I have never registered with MG before.
Still no luck there.
After launching a casino, on my first double-click on a game in the tournament section I can hear the pc trying to work a bit,
because most times for a couple of seconds I get the little blue "thinking ring" next to my mouse cursor.

It's a pretty normal pc here, nothing shockingly under or over powered/spec'ed, and after today I can be sure all my browser settings were basically default.

Way back when I first went through a casino about it I also had made maybe 2 tournament usernames by mistake at the time, and I think they helped me reduce
that back to one.. I wonder if somehow it has been reduced to zero? But then the popup should ask me to create a username... (thinking out loud here).
Also, I recall that when you go to enter a tournament and the game hasn't downloaded, you get that popup that says "please wait until the game is fully downloaded",
or something like that - I also haven't seen that for the same amount of time.

I haven't even thought about my ISP... It's not brand associated with my router or anything like that, but maybe I can log in there and see what they block if anything?

I can't help feeling it's something to do with me, but I just don't know what it is!! Actually, another last gasp could be to try plugging directly into the router... oh well,
I bet the day I get a new computer or move to the other side of the planet the problem will magically disappear.

Thanks again!

You seem to have ruled out your security software, so it's either something peculiar about your PC, or the block takes place somewhere over the internet. It could either be your ISP, or it could be at the MGS server end. CS always starts by blaming the user's security settings, so you have at least got this out of the way.

Plugging direct into the router is another test, especially if it can be switched into "modem mode" with no routing functions enabled. This should rule out the router.

Maybe you just have an extreme case of the "server lag" that seems to bedevil these tournaments.

If you can get hold of another PC, try that, or try your PC on a different connection (not easy, they are not exactly portable).

Thanks Vinyl.

I tried plugging in directly, to no avail.

Might try it on my housemate's laptop with my same accounts when she returns later this week. That'll get me closer to
an answer for sure.

Good one!

Cheers people!

James,

Seems my last message never posted unfortunately but I basically suggested you create a new user account on your computer and then sign up to another casino using that, do you know how to do this? That is as close to trying another computer as your likely to get without another actual machine, or emulating one (using eg. Microsoft VirtualPC)

Good luck once again!

So you mean a new windows user first?

I thought about it, but when I did the reformat I had to name the pc again and create a user, and I'm sure it was slightly differently done to last time. And I tried the same day to
register with a new casino... Surely that would be like being a new user?
I wouldn't obviously want to create a new casino account under a different name besides my real name either of course!!

It sucks!

Virtual PC is an interesting one - never really heard/used that. Seems like a lot of trouble to go through that just for the free games, then switch back.

I think I'll keep waiting for a while, unless some light bulb moment happens! I'll wait until one day when I'm desperate to play and I'll have a few drinks and go through MG again perhaps!!

Thanks for all your ideas. :)

This is effectively a new PC in terms of fixing a local problem. It suggests that whatever is blocking you from the tournaments, it's not something to do with your PC.

If you have an account that you created on a PC, rather than a mobile device, this should be good enough for tests.

One other test that could be done is for a friend to try their own account on your PC and see if they suddenly can't join any tournaments. You could also try your account on a friend's PC and see if you suddenly CAN join.

It would appear that the casinos and MGS are not doing all they can to resolve this, as your tests so far seem to place the problem elsewhere other than your PC.

Creating an account with false details for a test could backfire as it looks like fraud, and once marked for "suspicious activity", the marker could follow you all over the MGS network. You might, however, be able to try this with the permission (in writing for your own protection) of an operator you have a long standing account at. One may let you close your account registered as "mobile" and recreate one as "desktop" so that you can try joining tournaments this way. The operator could then make sure you don't take advantage of the situation by having another welcome bonus, which is the major problem with multiple accounts, and the main reason fraudsters create them.
