It feels like the games (for me rhino, bonanza, doa mainly but a few others also) have some sort of master algorithm based on the volume and rate of money received, if it falls then the rtp and bonus frequency drops. I must've done about 3,000 spins across 3 sessions on rhino recently, and had only one 4 scatter bonus, in my experience that is unusual, also retriggers are rare and bonus guarantees have increased In frequency.

Doa my current bonus rate is 1/400, in three bonuses i got the grand total of 1 wild. £40 to get one 18p bonus, over several sessions the pattern of 'luck' feels identical, i keep checking the help file to see if the version is 94%, that's what it plays like.

Speaking of Raging Rhino, I agree, something is amiss with that game, I've played it a lot, and I mean a lot, had my biggest ever slot win on it about 3 years ago of nearly 22k but just lately it plays like $hit, I had 543 spins on it recently at £1.60 a spin and didn't get the bonus once, not once, that just isn't right for RR, It's a game that has always liked a bonus, granted a lot of the time the bonus would be 'Bonus Guarantee' but at least you got a bit of entertainment, same with Montezuma, my favourite and most played game, it's just not the same anymore...I've not banned myself from anywhere but I'm taking a break for a bit, I accept that long term the player is always going to lose, but I want and expect some entertainment for my money, not dead spin after dead spin!

A real problem with high volatility and much less predictable slots is that it is much easier to disguise a lower RTP in them. It is no coincidence that these two tendencies (a decrease in the RTP and an increase in volatility) occur simultaneously. In my opinion, the real reason for these tendencies are not a mere change in marketing strategy, but the fierce competition in the game providers’ market which took place in the last 5 years. I personally miss the times when we had 5-6 providers only and we could trust them. Now we have one hundred of them and none has any good reputation. When, about one year ago, I found out that Microgaming has started to supply flexible RTP slots to the casinos (including their old titles like Thunderstruck and Immortal romance) - then I knew it was the end of fair online casino gaming.

I think a good indicator of how much worse the games are playing, other than the fact we're not winning anymore, there's a much higher percentage of dead and losing spins than ever before, far fewer bonus rounds and much worse bonus rounds when we finally get in, is the increase in failed attempts at a bonus round on the very first spin of a game.
I noticed quite early on after starting to play online slots that the vast majority of games that had a failed attempt at getting into a bonus round on the first spin (like getting two scatters and the chance of a third, but NOT two scatters where the second one appeared on the last reel and therefore was never going in anyway) nearly always ended up as losing games. These games very rarely went into a bonus round at all, and if they did it was a long time and a lot of money later that it happened, and was invariably a poor one, so I decided that I would immediately stop playing the game and restart it whenever the first spin was a failed attempt at a bonus.
This worked out pretty well over the years because I seemed to get fewer really bad games than I did before I twigged what was happening, but now I'm seeing more and more games starting like this than ever before, indicating that more and more games are 'bad' ones. This has only served to make me think I made the right decision to get out of these games immediately and that there might actually be something in this.
However, there are now so many really bad games that it only delays the inevitable, because, as so many posts on here mention that it 'feels' different, I also 'feel' that something is amiss, and has been since lockdown started, although it's got much worse in the last 8 months or so.
Hopefully it will eventually get out to the majority of players that we're being cheated by the casinos and games developers, and so many people will stop playing that it will turn back on the crooks involved and we might get fairer games back once they start going out of business.
If not, good riddance to bad rubbish.
