I had a look at this casino. It is Vegas Technologies powered, and runs LOADS of tournaments, just like the spammer said.

I could find NO mention of this Michael Jackson tournament, but it is certainly in bad taste. I doubt if ANY of the profit they make from this event will end up anywhere other than their own pockets.

There is an expectation that the profits from an event commemorating a dead celebrity goes either to their estate, or to a charity they supported in life.

Perhaps the administrators of his estate could sue the casino.

1) For using his name without permission (and paying any licensing fee)
2) For profits made on the event.

Similar attempts to cash-in on popular celebrities after death have been met with lawsuits, and these have crossed borders in some cases.

I cannot in any case see how a slot tournament commemorates a singer & performer. The live concert they had with the funeral was more relevant.

well it's not quite as bad as the 9/11 promotion that other casino had...was it Virtual or Golden Palace, I can't remember.

It was Virtual, Golden Palace wouldn't stoop THAT low:D

This offer involves issues of taste and marketing, but it might cause outrage if fans see it as a grubby attempt to make a profit from the death of their idol. There is, of course the issue of licensing, normally, permission is required to use an individual or their reputation in promotional material. Celebrities will go to great lengths to protect their image. Given their background, I do not believe gambling is something the Jackson family would approve of, let alone PROMOTE, or allow their name to be used in connection with.

The spammer even forged the "from" field so that is showed up as being from "MichaelJackson" (they forgot to put the space in).

Perhaps they thought loads of Michael Jackson fans would be persuaded to follow the links and take part in the tournament, but I'll bet most of these fans do not know much about online casinos, and might enter in the belief it is an officially sanctioned event, or that at least it is being used to raise money for the Jackson estate, or "good causes".

There is a good chance this tournament does not actually exist, and come August, it will not be listed, leaving anyone who wasted their time (and perhaps money) registering and playing in the expectation of this event a bit miffed - the CASINO will get the flak, and it will be delayed since their listing don't seem to go as far ahead as late August, when this tournament takes place.
