Friday the 13TH

Friday the 13th is a MUST go day.
I love the people who rub the screens, and do their little ritual dances. It's fun. Life is too short to take yourself too seriously. Whenever I go with a group of friends, especially someone who has never been before, I will always do something crazy like dance and shout some crazy stuff at the machine like a ritualistic type thing. It usually embarrasses everyone but me who thinks it's funny and we get a good laugh later.

A friend's hubby usually plays slots... but just before going to dinner, he sat beside her to play some video poker. He was dealt 4 to the royal... did his little 'lucky screen rub/chant to Lady Luck' ritual. To his wife's horror, he ended up holding all five cards. :p

I remember a similar conversation when the date was 07/07/07. Someone at work said it would be a good day to buy a lottery ticket. I said there would be a million tickets sold and one winner so the date of purchase isn't really going to help a whole lot of people buying those tickets. I have an equally hard time believing that the date has any bearing the outcome of a slot machine.

All of our superstitions are man made and the number 13 is simply a numerical value with no magic powers. I had an interesting read a few years ago about the number 666. Apparently the number had nothing to do with Satan and was the numerical value for the name of the Roman emperor Nero who truly was a beast. And a Nutcase.

There is a flight number 666 out of Copenhagen to Helsinki. I guess if you were the superstitious sort you might not want to board flight 666 to Hel as it's written on the schedule. Personally, I don't think a Roman emperor that's been dead for 2000 years is going to be effecting my trip much.

Lol I'm the same! I love doing that it's hilarious some people will get a good laugh out of it and the ones that are losing will be to depressed to even notice. I do things like knocking on the side of the machine "little man inside the machine please give a nice win" or "anyone home?" or I rub the side of the machine "like that? well there will be more where the came from if you pay-out" lol! I'm never down enough to really care but I know my sister who does $5 spins get's a good chuckle out of the jokes when she's feeling a little moody.

Sometimes when I'm feeling a little evil I'll say something like "been here for two hours and I'm still playing on the same $20" that generally get's me a few stares from the people that are losing.

I'm somewhat superstitious I've seen some pretty weird sh*t but I don't believe anything you do to those machines short from bashing them in with a baseball bat will make the coins magically fall out.

Back in the day, I had a serious addiction to video poker machines (live machines - not the online kind - the ones made by a company called Noraut based in Omagh). I always went to this place called the 147 Club in Queen Street, Belfast that was 1. right beside a police station and 2. directly opposite the US embassy building.

Anyhow, for some strange reason, I had a habit of often hitting a royal flush on my birthday. Wouldn't hit one all year, then on my birthday, bang - in it comes. The first time it happened, I thought "ah it's just a mad coincidence". By the time I hit for the third birthday in a row I was like "erm...OK....this is getting a tad strange now". It got to the point where I hated the idea of having my birthday fall on a Sunday because they weren't open on Sundays and I would have to go somewhere else lol. Eventually, the "birthday streak" ended at 6; yep my run ended at the so called "Lucky 7(th) attempt". And sure enough, since the streak ended, I have not hit a royal flush on my birthday ever since.

I did eventually beat my addiction to the live video poker machines (about 5 years ago). Not long after, the 147 club closed down. As a sidenote, the police station is also no longer in use and the US Embassy moved to another location in Belfast.

Then I discovered the online casinos and, as time passed, went from loving video pokers and hating slots to loving slots and hating video pokers. Recently, I've suddenly picked up this weird habit of hitting the 3 scatters to get the free spins on whatever slot it is I am playing and then doing a quick sign of the cross before I click on "start free spins". And I'm not even a religious person (I am a Catholic, but I haven't been in a church for a long, long time).

Maybe I'm just weird. But I definitely know that I'm superstitious. Probably got it from watching those Miller Lite TV ads where the tagline is "It's only weird if it doesn't work". And sometimes, it does work - handsomely :) But most of the time, it amounts to a crock of BS lol

I am not superstitious at all. To prove it: At work I planned a major update of one the most important applications.
I planned it on friday the 13th, at 13:13 hours and the version of the update was 3.13.
Never had a smoother update. Even the cardrive home went without problems, had a wonderfull night's sleep and woke up happy on the 14th.

On top of that I have been living at house number 13 for 13 years! So you can say I am not superstitious :D........
However now I think of it, I have been losing at online casino's for 13 years an put myself in the quit gambling group...maybe I should move
I am not superstitious at all, really I am not!:what:
