So I just ordered something for my better half on the Sports Direct website. Upon completing the purchase, I got the following pop up.

I mean, what??

Nah, just an affiliate ad, these are common on newspaper sites, chat forums for big companies say like Royal Mail etc.

Like when you order from a site then get a pop-up offer like "Get back £17 from the cost of this order.." bollocks which usually means some kind of cheap wine offer on condition of a subscription.

Just cross-marketing shit mate.

The ad is non-compliant too as uses exclamation marks everywhere. Also doesn't have crucial terms in enough detail. There is a call to action as well, 'claim 300 spins' whereas it should just say engage or visit. Then there's 'decline' forcing you to press a button, whereas you can close the box with the corner X.

Nothing wrong per se in advertising a gambling site via another business, but the ad is seriously wrong.

I’m still very surprised the UKGC allows this to happen.
It's not the UKGC letting it happen, they passed the buck ages ago to the casinos/affiliate programmes to ensure advertising compliance is met. I'd suggest this is a third-party marketing agency not doing the job properly as usual.

Where's @simmo when you need him... :p

So this a-hole is some affiliate that obviously knows how to play the system. As @Mr Shine pointed out, it isn't even a casino, its a advert for other casinos.

The only references you can find for it are on cashback sites like Topcashback and Quicdo, so it is obviously someone that knows there stuff with aff tracking and how to remain in the shadows out of detection.

My guess is they bought that ad space from SportsDirect who probably have no idea they are promoting free spins and casino products to unsuspecting customers.

I reckon this has got to be worth a complaint to SportsDirect. Why are they not paying more attention to who is advertising on their post sales pages??
