Must Read Evolution Hit with UKGC Sanction

Evolution Malta Holding Limited have been sanctioned by the UKGC to the tune of just under £5m as a result of some of their games being featured on unlicensed operator sites.

According to the enforcement bulletin published on the Gambling Commission's site, "Between December 2023 and November 2024 there were large volumes of visits to the six websites by UK consumers."

John Pierce, Commission Director of Enforcement, said:

"This case exposed serious weaknesses in Evolution's money laundering risk assessment and its oversight of risks within its supply chain.

"The company's money laundering risk assessment was outdated and failed to adequately consider the risk of its games being made available through unlicensed operators. As a result, there was a significant gap between the controls on paper and their effectiveness in practice.

"The Commission's investigation and testing uncovered failings that were serious enough for us to consider licence suspension.

"Evolution responded swiftly and comprehensively once these issues were identified, taking immediate action to strengthen its controls and address our concerns. Our subsequent testing has not identified any further instances of concern."

Perhaps the UKGC should be asking the question of themselves that their actions are taking players to non UK regulated casinos that are not quite as strict with all of the bullshit that goes with their rules.

I wonder how long it will be until the UK market has access to only one or two providers if said providers decide to tell the UKGC to shove it, if they make more money from the non UK regulated sites that the UKGC is targeting...

Actually can I clarify - they are fining providers who make their games available to non UKGC licensed casinos that accept UK players (like most no KYC crypto casinos with Costa Rica/Anjouan or similar licenses)? Or are they looking at only truly non-licensed casinos?

I don't think "licensed" casinos from Curacao can accept UK players, and that jurisdiction is one of the better "dodgy" ones

Yeah I think Curacao have cleaned up their act a bit but the others I mentioned above aren’t nearly as tight. I’m just wondering if the UKGC are citing these joints (with questionable licenses) for accepting UK players without KYC, or completely unlicensed casinos.
