Hi all, I am wondering if everyone else has to register the Visa and/or MC gift cards to purchase online. Both the cards that are available to me from the local grocery store require you to register the cards online before they will work for online purchases. The reg process requires your name, address, etc.
I have had to do this several times. If you do register them, do you have to provide accurate data so it would match to the casino data? Also, if requesting a withdrawal would you have to send a scan of the now empty (and not reloadable) gift card to the casino along with the usual credit card verification form?

All very good questions! I still haven't found a card locally that will work, but if I do... I'd like to know the answers to your questions, too.

I never had to register. Are you using the single-use gift cards or the reloadable type? You will have to register most (if not all) of the reloadables. Pick up the gift2go visa gift cards (non-reloadable, no registration required, just buy and fly).

I don't know if you have to scan them for a withdrawal. That would probably be up to the individual casino. After you deposit, toss them in a drawer just in case. Even if you don't need to scan, you might want it to prove your losses to the taxman.

Hi Mousey and Soflat. The two cards available to me are the "A Gift For You" Mastercard and the "all access" visa. Both ones are available at my local grocers and are for 25, 50 or $100 and are not reloadable. They have a peel away sticker on the front that says you can not purchase anything online unless you register but will work at a B&M store without registering. So, I have had to keep registering these damn things. I am going to give up for a week as this high desert girl is flying to Maine for a fishing trip tomorrow, WEEHOO!! I will return with some monster fish tales. And, oh yea, I am staying in Kennebunk. Any messages for the presidents Dad? You all be safe now. :D

Good luck with the fishing trip, Cynthia. Hope you reel in a monster.

The only advantage of registering your gift cards before using them is this:

If you buy something online, most processing companies will look for an address to match the card to. If they find out there's no address associated with the card, the transaction will be denied. Problem is, the bank that issued that card doesn't know that it was denied, and will hold the amount of the pre-auth for as long as 7 days before releasing the funds back to the card. Visa is notorious for having this "feature".

I have had this happen before with a gift card, and it sucks! I'll only use Netspend from now on. I haven't ran into that problem at all with them.
