either born lucky, so so lucky, and unlucky? And that just applies in everyday situation. I mean certain people no matter what, just seems to have the touch.

I believe in the phrase "you make your own luck".

i saw a tv program on cable that tried to scientifically examine that question. what they did was that they took a bunch of people and put them, unknowlingly, in situations where they could get "lucky." For example, they had their subjects travel a walkway and put a $20 bill on the ground to the side. some people were "lucky" and found it and others missed it completely. i remember them showing how some people walk with their heads down, avoiding eye contact with others.

Apparently the phrase "you make your own luck" is a good philisophy to live by because they determined that people with a better outlook on things, people who were more confident, sociable, etc..." were far more lucky than those who weren't.

i believe luck can give you opportunities but that's just half of it...the other half is taking that opportunity. two people can find $1000, one spends it, the other invests it for his kid's college fund who later becomes a doctor.... who was more "lucky?"

for me... i believe i've been very lucky!! (we are excluding slots, right?:D)

One mans 21 year old daughter gets killed in car wreck, his house burns down and the insurance company won't pay up, his only surviving child comes down with a terrible life altering disease (no insurance because the child was 23 and seemed in good health), a full IRS audit with lots of penalties, all in two years.... Is that bad luck or what?

You need good Karma around ya or you will not have any luck at all.
Think positive at all times.

I have to fix this lol
This is what I hear from many people

Is this in regards to luck at online casinos?
If so, luck has nothing to do with it :p:D:p

LOL... I'm trying to say this in the nicest possible way... Bull Shit. :)
 Can I say this too  I was joking.
Lots of people do this positive Karma thing around me.
And I tell them to stick that Karma thing somewhere else.
It all comes down to pure luck.

I am saying Bull Shit to the concept of "luck" or "karma", in any context.

Life is random... just like a deck of well shuffled cards.

The trick is making the best of the hand your dealt.

Bad things happen to good people, and even sh*t-heads can win the random spins. It's funny how we westerners have only latched onto a small part, a very small part of what karma is... cum-uppance, goes round comes round. One thing I know from past experience about karma... if I respond to fear and anger with love and compassion I am content, and the person I am interacting with is usually no longer angry or afraid. I created good karma... weeeeee!

Life is not fair, and we got nothing comin from it. I see the glass completely full even if half of it is air and the other half water. Being from the States I have been very fortunate in terms of food, shelter, security, and coming from a loving family I was fortunate that way as well. I've had disaster, calamity, crisis and opportunity in full measures, and other than direct cause and effect situations <put hand on burner, get burned> none of those things are related to each other even in the cosmic scheme of things.

Everything happens for a reason. Yip, and the reason is that all conditions were right, period. I didn't get a flat tire because some awesome force wanted me to be late for work resulting in a better job, I got a flat tire because some assh*le didn't tie his load down and I hit his rubbish.

Serendipity is not luck. It is opportunity... if I'm aware, and all the conditions are right to avail myself of the opportunity, I will. If I think I'm not lucky, or just a loser, or do not deserve the opportunity or am somehow otherwise not worthy of it, well it'll just be another missed boat.

Perception, awareness, and self image will determine whether I am lucky, so-so lucky, or jinxed. But when it comes to gambling? ... luck of the draw, know when to quit, throw big sometimes with profit. If I play within a budget and am content with the journey, I can't lose, and can possibly be very lucky.
That's my 2c adjusted for inflation. :)

Gambling aside.....I think people who live their life's believing they have been born unlucky will almost certainly subconsciously make bad decisions creating all their own problems.

If you don't believe it will happen then it never will, not because of luck, but because you make it not happen by already deciding it wont.

It is so important to always think positively! :)

..agreed!!!

yes, Matthew and BingoT are 100% right, it's important to think positively.
I've achieved a lot of goals that were unbelievable for my friends several years ago, but I always knew and believed that I would archive them, and always thought positively.

I take it the only surviving child is still here?

Then it's good luck!

Well,
For the man who's house burned down, child killed, irs audit and no insurance for the life altering illness

1. Noone died in the fire
2. Children unfortunately die (my nephew did, (not being smartass)
3. Atleast he has one child left, she choose not have insurance for herself, we are all healthy until something happens
4. IRS audit...That's his fault, the penalties are because he didnt pay what he was suppose to to begin with

My point is....Luck is about free will of the mind combined with karma. I hate when people say (my husband does this)" soandso is so lucky, did you see their new house?" that isnt luck, its called not spending money at the bar and saving for where you want to live!

What goes around comes around, another example:

Someone hit my car (the damage was about $1000) My car was old and I wasnt gonna keep it much longer. She wasnt the nicest person and it was her fault, it was in the city and 45 min from home. I could of made her pay the full $1000 but I knew it would really make a difference and I just couldnt do that to her so I accepted $250. My brothers said "why would you do that, you finally have a chance at getting so dough legally" (i know, lol). I just said I didnt feel right because it seemed she didnt have much

Two weeks later:......I looked down and hit the car in front of me with the same car I was hit by. I was upset inside because I knew I couldnt afford to pay this man and didnt want my insurance to go up. We got out of the car , he took my hand and said.... "lifes too short, dont worry about this, you can barely see anything on my truck"

That is Karma! That is what I live by Maybe Im not rich in money, but I can sleep at night and look everyone in the eye (that is wealth)

babs, I think you have a mis-conception about what Karma is.
Karma is not about retribution, vengeance, punishment or reward; karma simply deals with what is.

Ya children die, everyone dies sooner or later, but until you have a child die a senseless death you don't have clue about loss or grief or mourning. BTW - my daughter was pregnant with my grandchild when she was killed by a illegal alien driving a farm truck, so it was really like having a child and a grandchild killed at the same time.

Someone did die in the fire... My dog, I know its only a dog, but I loved him a lot, not to mention I lost everything I owned that I valued... Including all the pictures of my daughter.

The one child left... Ya thats so fucking lucky... He is completly disabled, the no insurance issue is not really a problem, I make a lot of money. The real issue is at 25 his life is over, he will never marry or have children, he will never do a lot of things... And I watch him cry about it and wish for death every damn day, ya it's really 'lucky' he is still here...

The IRS audit was simply because of what I do... Promote online casinos, at least that is what the IRS auditor told me.

I say it again... life is random... like a deck of well shuffled cards.
It's how you play your hand that counts.

I'll stop now, I think I've said enough about my life.

Damn, I am very lucky when compared to lots0. How you manage to keep a relatively cool head with all the shit that's happened to you is simply amazing... even with the Absolute Poker incident I still think you've kept your cool much more than I probably could.

Agree 100%. No one can compare to someone else unless they've had the same instance happen to them.
I applaud you lots0 because you could have taken everything that has happened to you and turned it around into something completely negative and damaging. Instead you seemed to have kept a straight head on your shoulders and continue to look at life in a positive manner.

You are misunderstanding me Lotso

First......the first part had nothing to do with Karma...You asked if people are lucky or unlucky and I gave my opinion

Second: The second part is about Karma (the car accidents)

Third: you are totally taking what I said out of context. I did mean "oh well, children die" and anyone in here that knows me what I meant. I meant that things happen without explanation. Three kids in our family died from cancer...15,12 and 8

Fourth: I am disabled, I cant work and live in pain everyday yet I feel lucky to have a nice husband and breath when I awaken from a shitty nights sleep. It sucks but that was the hand I was dealt. I was raped and strangled and almost died (it made the front page of the paper) was that bad luck too? No , that was life happening. I lost my mom to cancer at a young age...was that bad luck? No , it was life happening

You have a choice of accepting life and moving foward or you can hate and argue and say you have bad luck and be miserable for the rest of one's life. I lived with my nephew from the day he was born, to see my brothers face when he had to bury is son was aweful, but he had no other choice but to accept what God handed him. It wasnt bad luck, he never did anything wrong to anyone and my nephew was a 4.0 student and even scored a 1400 on his SAT's the same day he had chemo 3 months before he died.

There is no such thing as being lucky or unlucky...it's called life. That is what I mean when I responded. People live with shit everyday. You put it out there, now you have to deal with others people opinions. If you dont like the answer, than dont ask the question and make your self vulnerable (not you specifically, anybody who asks these kinds of questions)

That is my opinion....you can deal or not........again, not saying which you do because I dont know you, just my opinion on life

Thanks for the kind thoughts and words, but I was not looking for sympathy.

I was trying to make a point about luck and unwisely using my own life experiences as a an example.

I just had an old friend read this and she told me, that is was 'lucky' my house burned down, cuz now I have all new stuff...

"Luck" what a weird concept.

just make sure you had house fire insurance!! You know, it is kind of funny cause my husband had his truck totaled right after we put in a transmission, his truck was an old ranger and we ended up with a ford explorer, much nicer truck! He was fine..just the truck got totaled. That could of been good luck because we got a nicer car out of it

You getting nicer furniture? I am sorry about the Dog, I am an avid animal lover and advocate for them. Its not "like" your kid, it "was" your kid! Like you said, you didnt mention that in the first part, thats why I said "none died" but you did lose someone, sorry for that Lotso

Its just superstition, you got to believe that no one in this world in unlucky. If someone says likes this then just ignore them dont reply anything to them. If someone still makes fun of you say that if you are lucky then just lay on rail track if you are lucky then nothing is going to happen to you Just try it once and believe me from then no one will abuse you by saying that you are unlucky.
