Ok, not sure how many of you are aware of this but as from the 30th September 2026, in 13 days time, the following has to be implemented by all UKGC licensed operators, if not already done so:
  • offer gross deposit limits to customers, and in some cases re-introduce gross deposit limits to the options available to customers
  • name gross deposit limits as “deposit limits” - only this type of limit can be called a “deposit limit”
  • offer gross deposit limits with at least equal prominence as other types of financial limit.
So basically what this means is that any withdrawal amounts you make are not taken off the amount you have deposited. Thus differing from a net deposit limit, where withdrawals can effectively reduce the amount counted towards the limit.

Is this a good move? Personally I think yes it is. Although for me, a loss limit would be my limit of choice if playing online.

This would have saved me a significant sum of money last month if the site I played at had offered me that type of limit at the time so I am all in favour of having this available.

I think it is a gross overreach. The limits set by casinos are being heavily monitored to please the UKGC with the use of deeper checks on affordability. If my limit is set at say £500 per month and within that month I win £1000 I expect to be able to deposit over £500 within what is left of the month.
We will see folk not making any use of that £1000 win in other aspects of our life because it encourages folk to not withdraw it but use it as a casino slush fund

If my limit is set at say £500 per month and within that month I win £1000 I expect to be able to deposit over £500 within what is left of the month.
Sadly if not already imposed where you play, come 30th September all UK licensed online casinos will not take into consideration any winnings withdrawn.

So I'm assuming companies that have installed net deposit limits off their own back will be able to continue doing so, and they won't have start squeezing me even harder by turning them into gross limits. I never choose limits for myself but have had several imposed on me, most irritatingly £150/mo at WillHill.

Wow, had this at Sky Vegas, most casinos misdescribe 'loss limit' as deposit limit and for a very good reason!

It's the second biggest con perpetrated on players after the old 'reverse w/d' stunt.

Sidney Spawney-Twatt signs up, deposits 100 and wins 3k, then the casino isn't getting any of it back any time soon.

This could cost UKGC sites in terms of turnover - expect 88-92% RTP across the board in the next 6 months lol

There goes my Bonanza-ing if they do it to me and remove my 250 LL.

What does this actually mean then?

If my deposit limit is say £100 per month and I win £200 in that month and withdraw it, this means I can deposit £300 that month?
No, your £100 deposit stands, resets one month later. It's irrespective of win, lose or draw.

What you describe is a loss limit, which for their benefit casinos masquerade as a deposit limit.

Beat me to it dunover 🤬

So now unless we keep funds on the account rather than withdrawing were going to need bigger actual deposit limits FFS what a cock up as usual from the UKGC.

So in other words the UKGC has inadvertently made withdrawing winnings a less appealing proposition if you want to keep playing for the month, they really don't have a clue. Come on UKGC if your serious about making real changes that make a genuine differance, give me a job I will sort it all out in a much better way.

I guess it will largely depend if were still allowed to keep our "Unlimited deposit limits" or "no deposit limit", as I have on various sites, but do have a loss limit which in theory results in no change? So equally pointless if that is the case.

However I do have some sites that have a net deposit limit and those will be affected if they just change the current amounts to gross from net.

VS currently have net so i have just requested that to be removed ( 7 days ) as the loss limit will still kick in at my monthly loss limit I will still be only able to lose what I already have up to now, regardless of deposits.

I've always worried stuff like this would deter people from withdrawing. I guess the UKGC would argue it's better for customers to lose £5k winnings than deposit £500 they might not have. The way they've worded it as "offer customers" makes it sound like it's only an option? Guessing it's not though!

I think it will only lead to people putting higher gross limits and losing more, I much prefer net limits as I often withdraw the same day as my deposits and don't keep large amounts of money on platforms.

Kind of madness that you could get a $1000 limit, deposit $1000 and withdraw 10k and not be allowed to put any back onsite. Those players will put it on other platforms instead, regulated or unregulated.

Those players will put it on other platforms instead, regulated or unregulated.
I think you are right, the vast majority of players will likely operate more than one casino account to get around this.

As for whether this has to be applied, I don't know. I'll ask one of the reps.

This change will not impact me but it's yet another ill-informed decision by the wonderful UKGC.

As most have said here, it will only discourage people from withdrawing winnings, and will have the same effect as a net deposit limit for many. But the psychology of withdrawing and redepositing is quite different to leaving a balance in a casino.

These crazy decisions used to surprise me. Now they are expected.
