Just shows how quickly we seem to be getting on top of this now, could be in single figures next Monday.
Getting my vaccine this afternoon, could have had it last week but decided to wait for a couple of reasons.

People outside of UK can still travel to UK and out, wouldn't that be more effective to stop people outside of UK to travel there? Now there seem to be exemption in the new ban on leaving the UK for those who are there on a temporary basis and are not resident there.

I can see their point though. They were wrong not to close the borders a year ago, it's clear we were much harder hit because of this. Other countries are massively behind us in terms of vaccines, and the last thing we want is a new vaccine resistant strain getting into the country and us having to go back into lockdown.
They are stuck between a rock and a hard place. They are going to get shit whichever way they go.

But the virus won't go away and the vaccine isn't going to magically make it disappear either. All it does is limit the effects the virus has on a person. Are we therefore going to be stuck on this island for long periods of time?

It stops people dying and/or ending up in ICU though. Surely that is the end game?
Once thats under control then the labs can look at developing things that can stop transmission etc.
I'm sure once other countries have vaccinated a large percentage of the population, cases and all the other figures are down, then things will open up again. Parts of Europe are back in lockdown and are going through a third wave, it would be irresponsible to allow people to travel there while thats going on surely?

I get all of that. I am having the vaccine myself later this afternoon, just like you.

However, the point I am making is that we never could stop the virus. We had to stop it spreading to protect the NHS and avoid deaths until a vaccine was found. Now that the vaccine has been found and is being delivered that aim has been achieved. There was/is a roadmap out of lockdown that by the sound of things is now considered to divert off from.

Unless you do a clandestine migrant crossing in reverse and sail a boat from Dover to France, yes it's quite likely.

It is one thing getting those most scared of the virus taking the vaccination and another getting the younger to take it.

I am happy to sit back and see how things pan out. I think I had it last spring and after calling the medical line provided at a point where my breathing was so difficult that I needed help I was told that I was not ill enough to involve medical services. In the next few days I luckily got better.
I have huge trust in natural immunity and anything that may effect it is not my friend

Colds 1 a year if that, duration 24h at most. Other illnesses (touch wood) none!

Jono to be fair I suspect that your stance on the issues around covid and taking the vaccine has swung a little bit over this past year?
I may be wrong about that but so many others are so confused about everything involved with the past yea are.
I am not posting in here to try to influence anyone one way or another. But it is a debating forum we are posting in and sometimes I post in these threads against my better judgement.Sometimes drunkenly

It’s hilarious that people pick an isolated example of something going against a trend and then assume that lockdown doesn’t work.
The Florida population is very transient. I'd wager that 25% of their population flies in for 5 months a year - and then flies out again. This year they didn't go.

He is already changing his argument. His original posts were why Sweden was faring better than other lockdown countries, that was proven wrong, and now he is changing his argument like every raving conspiracy loon does, every single time.

Nothing to do with lockdown, otherwise states, countries that didn't lockdown would be seeing deaths in their 100000s wouldn't they.

Look at India, densely packed cities, no vaccine, no lockdown, you would expect with your logic for millions of deaths and bodies lying everywhere.

Yes it is absolutely ad hominem, do you even know wtf it actually means, it means casting doubt on somebodys character in order to invalidate somebody's point which is exactly what you did, because they are a black belt in karate that means they are not qualified to give health advice? even if they have spend a couple of decades being in health and nutrition? so in other words you are saying no matter how expert somebody is in health and nutrition, if they decide to take karate classes and make it to black belt they are suddenly full of shit because they have a black belt, you are funny.
