I was looking up something today and came across a blog/rant that say they have PROOF! that Boston bomber suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is innocent and that the whole bombing was a Hollywood-type production, that nobody was really even injured etc etc - even the one guy who lost both legs was actually being acted by a double amputee war veteran. They had all sorts of links to other like-minded....ummm...anyhow I guess there are Facebook pages and lots of youtube videos with 'incontrovertible evidence' and so on, and lots of followers jumping on the bandwagon.

It's nothing new, there are facebook groups that say James Holmes is innocent too. But it seems kinda weird to me - like people start these fan clubs whenever the killer/bomber/shooter doesn't kill themselves or get killed by someone else. As soon as they're arrested alive, suddenly they're innocent.

Two words. Nut Jobs:rolleyes:
And the people that believe this drivel are of very low intelligence IMHO.

I wonder what seventh/Roy would have said about this:eek2:
That was a smart guy with some strange ideas.

Thanks for reminding me Chayton. I still miss him:)

Roy was one of my favorite posters even though I'm not sure if I ever agreed with anything he said.

There were many times when I only had some of the information required to answer his posts or I needed to verify the information I believed to be true before posting it so his threads often required research to respond to. Whether he was right or wrong didn't stop me from learning from our debates.

He truly seemed to appreciate the effort it took to refute his claims. That's rare.

I also learned a lot from all those discussions.
I had a few debates with him too, but that was on Facebook instead of here. Fun times ;)

I feel duty-bound to chip in on this thread.
We had the same crap here, like the UK WMD inspector who went to Iraq before the second Gulf War, and later committed suicide. Of course, he was 'bumped off' by MI5 as he was about to expose the Govts. lies about the reasons to invade Iraq...

Then of course the countless foil-hatters who are convinced aliens have landed, and the Western (read US and UK) governments are hiding the fact.
I mean, these 'aliens' that manage to build craft and traverse through space/time at colossal speeds, enter our atmosphere and then f*ck it all up 50 metres from the ground each time..:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'd be more inclined to believe that alien civilizations exist that are smart enough to build interstellar space craft but are not skill enough to land them than I am to believe that any of our governments are able to hide anything longer than one term in office.

"Vote for us because they're willing to risk jobs by increasing corporate taxes."

"Vote for us because they're hiding an alien in the basement."

This sort of stuff just disgusts me.
My family all lives there and My cousin was running in the race that day so I can confirm for you that it really happened and there was no conspiracy. He was a few miles from the finish line and the marathon sent out vans to pick him and all the other runners up and take them to safety zones.

There is so many crap to find on the internet,it is just unreal.
It is fun this thread pops up as I visit a friends forum regularly where these kind of topics are being discussed all the time.

People seek conspiracies in nearly every major event that happened in the world.
Some examples like OP:

*9/11 (allthough even in this particular case I am not sure what really happened).
*Sandy Elementry Shootings
*Earthquake in Japan & Fukushima nuclear plant.
*Doomsday predictions (anyone every heard of the hoax of all hoaxes Niburu) where some rogue planet would destroy earth.:lolup:

It is simply fascinating to read what people really believe sometimes.

So yé,conspiracies are from all times I think.

Want to read some real sick stuff, the mothership of all conspiracies?
Try to visit GLP (Godlike Productions).:D

There are many reasons for these conspiracies. Some people simply don't want to believe the truth. Other people prefer to lay the blame on something bigger than random chance.

I think most often these days the big conspiracy websites, books and movies are made solely for the purpose of cashing in on people's fears. Where there's money to be made people will be making it regardless of how it effects those involved.

OK, here's when I know the world has gone doolally when people try and tell me:

TFTUT Has given a full screen of wilds and paid over 2k x stake.
St*rb*rst has given a full screen of bars.
Somebody has purchased an online roulette 'system' and broke the casino.
Somebody claims to have hit 5 x Sarah and 5 x Wild together on IR.
Vinyl's keyboard has seized up.

I watched one about the physics behind 9/11

I was quite captivated by what I saw in the video, and the glaringly obvious things that were overlooked!

The video is on youtube for anyone interested.

Depends I guess on what frame of mind you're in while watching the video.

I've sat and watched a few 9/11 conspiracy theories, and I have my own beliefs as to what went on.

Some of my mates were on about the illiminati (selling :/) and the music industry, Going to start looking into that soon.

I like a good ol' conspiracy :D

The problem with these theories is that they're not always started by seekers of the truth. Quite often they're started by people with other agendas that have nothing to do with the theory itself. Theories that a terrorist attack was really an elaborate government plot may well be believed by enough people to damage the party's reputation. It can be used to intentionally incite unrest in the general population and "justify" actions against that government.

It only takes a select few to create these theories and then the perpetuators of these theories take over. These are the ones who sell books, make movies and create websites revolving around these claims for the sole purpose of making a profit. From there the theories are retold by both people who believe them and people who don't.

All this really serves to do is shift the blame away from the actual perpetrators and convince people of things that simply are not true. I have been to some of these conspiracy websites and I've seen some of these book covers and documentaries. Aliens on Earth, assassinations, government plots, faked deaths, mythical creatures. The people selling these stories are really just making a living by perpetuating the untrue.
