Well I'm bummed - my job has blocked me from viewing CM @ work  I get a message - this is a restricted site - GET BACK TO WORK :eek2:

It really passed the slow times away to read @ work

You have a pretty smart boss :p

Here's another kicker.

I took my laptop into a Mickey dees that has wifi, yes mickey dees, and tried to logon to casinomeister and it blocked me. I guess its considered a gaming site.

WTF is up with that??? I also tried at my local Starbucks and couldn't get on as well.

When I saw the title of this thread, this is what I thought it meant. :D
Obviously a little refreshment break from his stressful job. This is an old pc he turned into a brew dispenser.

Sometimes I'm using Ultra-VPN. It's absolutely free program which allows you to create your own account and establish secure VPN connection. You can find it here:
You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.

Just use "stealthy connect" option ;)

Many working places are doing this more and more.
I have one at work we use that goes anyplace we want.
At times I do let them use it (15 minute breaks and the 1/2 to the 1 hour lunch they have.) or I just use it without letting anyone use it
Just kidding I am a fair & loving boss.
They had a story on it someplace too but I can't seem to find it again.

IMO one of the big problems with censorship - because this is censorship to a degree - is that those tasked with deciding what should and should not be seen by the public too frequently have little knowledge of the subjects they are censoring.

We see this in the recent clumsy Australian attempts at Internet censorship, where a number of innocent sites were blacklisted, and earlier (before the Italians became more internet-enlightened) in their brief excursion into banning at the ISP level.

And there are many governments whose knee jerk reaction to combating what they regard as evil, illegal and unsuitable for their citizens on the internet is to resort to mass, categorised ISP blocking.

I think a case can be made for employers not wanting staff distracted by extraneous Internet activity, but airports and coffee shops are a more sensitive issue where the owner's right to tell customers what they may and may not view may be more contentious.

In the case of barring Casinomeister specifically, whoever decided to add it to the list in all probability had no idea that it is not a gambling site per se, but an information site about gambling.

This is imv a microcosmic example of the dangers of censorship on a larger scale - blanket bans are never likely to be fair or accurate.

Now are we talking about only work places blocking CM or coffee joints and airports too? thank you.

I have travelled quite a bit all over and so far the only airport I found where anything gambling was blocked was the Phoenix one. There, everything gambling related is blocked. At least it was a couple years ago. Haven't been through there in some time.

Recent experience...

Hubby was in the hospital for a few days. Had my laptop with me. They have wireless access all over the hospitals and clinics. Cool... but... Casinomeister is blocked. So I couldn't have my daily cuppa and Casinomeister.

While I understand that they wouldn't want people/employees/staff gambling... I did see some nurses frittering away time on Facebook, etc. so.... what's the diff??

Anyway... will that hidemyass help? And brief instructions on how to use it, please.

Also important question... how the devil am I supposed to do any online bill paying or whatever when I'm away from home? I mean ... nonsecure public access is just asking for trouble isn't it?

In some places and I mean some call this social networking and it's ok.And we all know facebook does have many that promote stuff.
I think as times passes you will see that you will not go into that site as well.
Give it some time.
No not Nurses  Glad they don't work for me.:D

It wasn't a criticism... those guys and girls work hard, but they had a quiet night that night. They took care of hubby well the entire time. When they have a few minutes to rest their feet and have a cuppa and check their emails or facebook, they deserve it. It's just that with hubby there in the hospital, the hospital public access internet kept me off CM (and this forum is no worse than facebook -- which I never use)... guess anything with casino or gambling in the url gets blocked. LOL

We'll be going back next week, so I'm going to see if I can find someone in their IT dept to talk to. I still don't like the idea of trying to do any banking or paying bills on public access. I'll try to do most of it from home, or by mail, but I never know with any certainty how long we're going to be stuck away from home in any given week.

I always tell people if you don't use a secure network, everything your doing is PUBLIC... anyone (with a little know how - most 16 year olds) can see exactly what your doing and they can 'snif' passwords ect.

NEVER use a public or non-secure network for anything important or that requires security... NEVER!

That's what I was thinking, too. So how the hell do people who travel all the time get anything done using their laptop?

The airport in Phoenix, AZ also blocks it.

A case of the pot calling the kettle black.

The US made a HUGE fuss over China "censoring the internet", and how it was a violation of human rights etc....etc....

NOW the US is banning even TALKING about online gambling, not just DOING it. They are also doing EXACTLY what China does, banning online NEWS ARTICLES. China blocks containing news about Tibet & the occupation, whilst the US block NEWS sites containing articles about online gambling. I have heard that sites such as infopowa have been blocked, not just Casinomeister.

The block at WORK is different, and is probably along the lines of there being a whitelist of sites that workers are allowed to visit. A "blacklist" blocker might block because of certain keywords used on the site, and this WOULD block Casinomeister. It seems to be decided at local level though, as you have managed to access the site to post this from somewhere.

The only sites the UK are thinking of blocking at the moment are things like incitement to terrorism, child porn, and free illegal music downloads.

Minor correction to VWM's post above - infopowa does not operate a website.

It is an email powered news service, and to date none of its few portal information clients have reported blocks - other than those we're seeing here about Casinomeister.
