The only thing everyone wanted was the truth: What happened to Caylee Marie?

Three years after the toddler who captivated the world was reported missing from her east Orange County home, a jury decided prosecutors failed to prove that Caylee's young single mother killed her.

"Casey did not murder Caylee; it's just that simple," lead defense attorney Jose Baez said outside the courtroom minutes after the verdict was read. "While we are happy for Casey, there are no winners in this case."

What I find sad is that this woman has now been given the okay to go out and have another child. Chances are she'll do the same thing again and thinking she got away with it once it will happen again. And ANOTHER child will be put at risk. Hell, it may not even be her own next time, but someone elses! I sincerely hope those jurors can sleep peacefully knowing they have allowed one of the worst types of sociopaths to have free rein amongst civilized human beings.

I think Casey Anthony most likely did, in fact, kill her child, but the prosecution was messy. Of course, the defense was, too, but they don't have to prove jack squat. I would think the prosecution would have at least had enough evidence to select a single cause of death if they're going to try and put a woman on death row. The discussion of both the tape and the chloroform simultaneously made them appear unsure.

If the prosecution would've gone with something they could've proven with the evidence (negligent homicide comes to mind) initially instead of jumping straight to the death penalty on supposition, there probably would have been "justice for Caylee".

Honestly, the case itself isn't of concern to me. It's horrible what happened, but this kind of thing happens way more frequently than the media lets on. Missing and murdered white girls is a lucrative business, and Nancy Grace thanks you for your patronage. (

But what infuriates me the most about all of this is the audacity of some people to put the blame on the jury, like somehow they're omniscient sentinels. It's absolutely offensive and potentially detrimental to our legal system if this habit of bitching out the jury for their legally safeguarded decision becomes the norm. These people have put their lives on hold for weeks to protect one of the few remaining liberties of our government. And then you have people who make a living by exploiting the misfortunes of others (a la Nancy Grace) stating that the jury was misled because they didn't watch biased media coverage?

And then you have the people who want Baez to rot in Hell. Yeah, how DARE you do what you were paid to do?

The discussion of people expecting too much "definite" evidence is a valid point, as well. Things like ironclad DNA matches are seldom found, and we can all give a round of applause to things like CSI for pushing this myth on the public. There is certainly a difference between "reasonable" and "conceivable" doubt. For me, what it all comes down to is, if the jury thinks that the doubt they had after 11 hours of grueling deliberation was reasonable, that's a decision worth respecting. Additionally we, as outsiders, had access to more information that very well make Casey to appear more guilty than the jury was permitted to see.

Do i think think she killed that baby? Whether by accident or intent, yes. If I had been on the jury, could I have voted to convict? Nope.

Evidence, not JUST circumstantial, is crucial. The prosecution didn't have it.

and I have yet to grasp the public's obsession with this case...

btw ... the jury didn't say she was 'innocent' ... their decision says they didn't have enough evidence to convict 'beyond a shadow of a doubt'.

I think the prosecution made a few errors.

The forensics-not photographing the duct tape with the heart sticker on it first before dusting it-after dusting the duct tape they couldnt even see the heart sticker nevermind photograph it.

She did it for sure...

I'd never heard of this woman or this case til when the trial started I saw on the news that people were actually getting in fistfights to get into the courthouse so they could blog about it.

Oddly I was at the grocery store not that long ago and noticed that one of the tabloids had a photo of Jonbenet Ramsey on the cover. The same sort of media frenzy surrounded that case, and I remember when it was all happening thinking, yes it's horrible that she was killed, it's horrible when any child is killed. But being forcefed it 24/7 ad nauseum...it's too much.

This is exactly the reason why there was no conviction. Have served on a jury for a criminal trial, I had a similar experience. I felt the defendant was guilty yet could not convict based on the lack of evidence and contrasting testimonies. The jurors are given explicit directions by the judge to follow and all must adhere to the rules.

A juror has already attested to the fact they believe Casey Anthony played an integral role in her Caylee's death however the prosecution lacked definitive proof.

Talk about a dysfunctional family! Wow!
