Bonus Rounds Which Pay Nothing- Why?

I'm sure others will agree that there's nothing more frustrating that hitting a bonus round which then pays zilch!

I've had this experience recently when playing Star Trek on IGT at £3.00 a spin I was quite a bit down and then to my relief hit a "Scotty" bonus at 3x each winning line which then doubles up to 6x after 5 of the 10 bonus spins. Not one winning line was received on the 10 spins and my total take was £9.00 from the scatter which triggered the bonus- how frustrating!
A similar situation can happen on the Monopoly Plus IGT game both in the bonus board round and the Mr Monopoly turning the reels wild.

I've had the same with Immortal Romance when I've hit the bonus spins and the Wild Desire turning the reels wild feature (which appears very rarely)

I just wonder why the designers put this into the programming? Is it so we get so annoyed we keep trying? Either way, it is very annoying, especially when you've been waiting what seems like an age for a bonus to hit!

The programmers make the games random. Random means anything can happen; you can win zero, or you can win a fortune.
If you don't want to play totally random games, you'd better stick to AWPs! :p

Don't get me wrong - I have won ZERO hundreds of times and it is VERY frustrating, but I accept this is part and parcel of a random game.

If it bugs you that much, avoid the slots with have this possibility and stick to those which guarantee some return from a bonus round.
The only downside of a guaranteed win, is that many of them have a cap on the maximum you can win too. You can't have it all ways!

I know... One of the reasons I don't deposit much anymore. I've found the features on land based slots tend to have better returns. You get more features playing online slots but most of them don't payout. I've had countless features online on a $2.50 bet and won less than $30 nearly EVERY time. The result? I dont feel much incentive to bet more than minimum.

Nil rounds are quite rare to be fair. I also find that after a very poor round that the next tends to be quite good. It is frustrating I agree, especially the stupid inane message 'congratulations you won 0 coins'.............

Most certainly. I found they were very rare in my earlier days of playing but just last week I had 3 in a row!

i got a bonus round the other day at a land based casino on Zeus the original one, 30 lines 25c machine at 5 coins a line which is 37.50 a spin… got 10 blanks.. so pissed. But notice that even land based casinos are getting tighter, its not like it used to be 2-3 years ago

Yes I know :) But I would save that kind of money for the tables. B&M and online slots are preety similar but I expect better returns online not from a pub where the slots are set between 87-90% that's just a worry. Btw MAD game, Zeus is awesome!

I have a pretty good track record with Squirrels at 3Dice, so the other day, I was spinning on the game at 54c a spin.......

my balance dropping and I finally got 3 squirrels (thinking I had been saved)............ there were probably 12-15 squirrels

to bob on the head in my feature round... nearly ALL of them only paid out about 6-8c each! Yeah, I was just about livid!

It's almost like a "why bother" moment.

Or the Fortune Falls slot where you inevitably get the ball landing on "3" free spins.......... yet another "why bother"

moment. It almost feels like a punishment instead of a bonus.

Times like this is when I have to ask myself, "Why am I playing this game again?"

Not a pub, was a casino in vegas.. These machines might be set a percent or 2 lower then online casinos, but ill take the lower payout percentage, because i know when i hit in a land based casino i get paid asap..

No I was talking about where I go :) Your lucky to have a casino nearby  One can dream. Yes I can see the benefit in playing at a B&M which is why I spend more there than online.

I prefer to play the video slots that actually give you a bonus reward for triggering the bonus round or the free spin feature,
so at least I leave with a benefit even if it's a fairly low amount. I can't count the number of times that I've hit a free spin
feature or a bonus round, only to leave without any winnings. You'd think that the programmers would program in some sort
of a "Bad Beat" amount if you leave with nothing
, because I normally just close the game, and find a different game to play.

There are a few games with this. Wealth Spa (MGS) will pay 20x bet if you take the massage bonus and end up with less than this. I recall a couple of RTG games where getting a blank paid 100x bet, and you would probably pray to get all dead spins rather than the usual crappy bonus round of just a few x bet.

I even managed to get the Wealth Spa "bad beat" bonus once, I was not amused:mad:

Good point! I've been to Vegas a few times and really enjoyed it, but never really won much. Going slightly off topic, but even more annoying, I was playing a slot in The Hilton in Vegas, $3 a spin. The slot wasn't doing much so I came off it. The guy that went on straight after me dropped $19,000 on one $3 spin a few spins later

Had this today, playing IR on betat at £3 per spin, got the TROY bonus and nothing, atlest I got £40 from the Wild Desire so not all bad

AUch, makes me want to puke

More than a couple - there are now at least 10 which I know of.
Also, only a few pay 100 x bet - most are more; The highest 2 are Goblin's Treasure and Ocean Dreams, which both pay 1000 x bet for a zero return from free-spins - which I guess makes it VERY unlikely. But they also give 3 smaller bonuses for any free-spins return below 10 x your bet.

I didn't know Wealth Spa had a minimum pay - thanks for the heads-up!

Me either and I play this game a fair bit.

Getting the 0 bonus round is more frustrating when your balance is almost gone and you hit those 3 scatters FINALLY!, only to find it was the slots evil plan to make you more frustrated, BDBA I am looking at you!!

Well, it didn't pay exactly zero, but I was sooo pissed off this weekend playing Jack and the beanstalk.
Got free spins (very rare) and hit 2 retriggers (never seen that before), so I got to the expanding wild stage with no less than EIGHT spins left!!
OMG I thought, now its gonna happen...

Not. You guessed it, eight dead spins. No expanding wild anywhere.

Last time I ever played the game.

Had the same thing on jack and the beanstalk 2retriggers and 6-7spins left and not a single expanding wild, i really hate this slot the 0-5x features is just too often and freespins is hard as hell to get in the first place.

Yeah I dont play it because of the impossible to get feature but really when youve put in a small fortune chasing it in the first place it really should return something. Try Goldylocks and the Wild Bears (Betsafe) same kind of game but seems to give decent wins more often :)

Also played IR last night. £150 staked and lost on £1.50 spins, also got the Troy bonus which paid £3.00, and a Wild Desire which paid nothing.

Sick ....

I triggered the FS on JATBS with a Wild on the last reel. The FS paid ZERO and the Wild skipped across 5 reels without a combination - Total Win = ZERO. Wtf!? lol

Yesterday i was playing Wild Turkey on 4€ bets got the freespinns 4 times and they paid as follows: First paid 0,5 x bet, second paid 1 x bet, third paid 4x bet and then finally it paid alittle over 100x bet.

Moved on to MUSE on 5€ bets i got the freespinns two times in less than 10 spinns apart first paid 0, second paid 0,5 x bet....... Its totally obviuos the base game might be random but the freespinns are not random... What are the odds of this happening so often on the same day?
