Betfair closed my account immediately after first deposit (business decision)

Hi everyone,

I’m posting here to see if anyone has experienced something similar with Betfair.

I recently created a Betfair account and everything seemed normal at first. However, right after I attempted to make my first deposit, my account was suddenly closed.

When I contacted customer support, they told me the account was closed on “business grounds” by their Account Security team. They also said the decision is final and that they cannot provide any further explanation.

The strange thing is that I honestly don’t know any reason why my account would be closed. I haven’t used the account for anything yet.

The only thing I can think of is that I tried to make the deposit using a card that apparently blocks transactions to gambling sites. I’m not sure if that could have triggered something on their side.

Has anyone had a similar situation with Betfair?
Were you able to get your account reopened or get a proper explanation?

I’m also considering filing a formal complaint and escalating the issue if necessary.

Any advice or experiences would be really appreciated.

I wouldn't bother making a complaint, would just be a waste of time.

It's the same as a landlord in a pub, if they don't want your business they can just refuse you with no explanation necessary.

Haha, I didn’t spend much time on the complaint, but let’s see what happens. I don’t really understand the closure, since I’ve been a customer on dozens of different sites without issues.

It’s frustrating because, from Finland, Betfair is the only betting exchange you can legally use.
 
I don't see the issue, they are welcome not to accept your action etc, especially if you are known for arbitrage
 
Some details are probably connected to other players so they decided to not accept you.
 
I worked with Betfair for multiple years as an affiliate with great success. But for some reason that I didnt know the just closed my affilaite account with no explanation. So its a bit rouge in my opinion.
 
I had about £300 cash and £40 of earned free bets in Paddy about 5 years ago. They closed my account for no explanation other than "business reasons". I know I wasn't doing anything shady, but they were going to keep my money and only gave the cash back after long acrimonious email exchange, them finally agreeing we were at a standstill and me going to IBAS and then a long bitter exchange. I never got the potential of the free bets returned even though they were earned fair and square. They were constantly throwing shade but never told me what, if anything, they were accusing me of.

Almost immediately after that they did the same to my Betfair account, but gave in quicker after I'd pointed out I'd already taken Paddy to IBAS

Looks like they haven't improved in 5 years "business reasons" harrumph!
