The leading data-driven software supplier Bede Gaming have become one of the first wave of companies to support the UK’s new GamProtect scheme.

Developed as a means to keep customers that are displaying problem gambling behaviours safe, GamProtect provides a mechanism for participating UK operators to compliantly and securely share data regarding vulnerable customers across the network of operators within the GamProtect programme.

Utilising a marker-based system that informs other participating operators that a customer has been added to the GamProtect database, the scheme aims to foster a collaborative approach to monitoring player safety that will support the long-term sustainability of the industry.

Bede Gaming being an early adopter of the new scheme certainly tracks with the award-winning platform’s reputation for supplying pioneering solutions to its partners.

The addition of the GamProtect integration builds on the comprehensive suite of responsible gaming features that the Bede platform offers through both inhouse product tools and integrations with best-in-class third party providers.

From robust play limits and restrictions to sophisticated real-time monitoring and proactive interventions, Bede's product toolkit and customisable player protection functionality supports and enables the player health ambitions of its partners.

Whilst some features, like GamProtect, are bespoke to certain markets, Bede’s platform and product are developed to be configurable to any operator requirement, across jurisdictions and regulations.

Colin Cole-Johnson, Chief Executive Officer at Bede Gaming, said:

Bede has a reputation for being the Safest Place to Play so is always going to be at the forefront for such initiatives. We’re proud to be continuing in this way by already being able to offer GamProtect for our UK customers. I believe the expansion of the GamProtect scheme is a critical step forward in helping to protect vulnerable customers from gambling harm.

Kane Purdy Chair of the Board of GamProtect Ltd, said:

It is great to see a leading B2B supplier like Bede onboard to the industry’s most advanced safety solution, GamProtect. Customer protection is front and centre for the industry and innovators are seeing the value that GamProtect can provide. We are delighted to welcome Bede as an early adopter of GamProtect and this reflects our shared vision of effective customer protection.

So GamProtect is another nail in the coffin for UK players? If you deposit too much one weekend, or play at un-socialable hours (i.e you are sick in bed one night) and a operator closes your account, all your accounts at maybe two dozen other casinos will automatically be closed?

If you are identified with a medical condition (none of which are explicitly stated) -
You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.
- you will also be banned without exception.

Your personal data is also shared between 22 operators and your data is retained centrally for 47 years?

I'm all for safer, responsible gambling but this looks shady. No contact details either on their site.

Possibly, the issue has been though that for too long vulnerable players were not identified or 'allowed' to continue losing whatever funds they could get their hands on. Leaving them destitute and in some cases suicidal.

Problem Gambling is a very real live issue sadly. Just this morning Yorkshire Live are reporting on a married man who took his life due to large gambling debts. His widow has this week launched a legal challenge against the Gambling Commission at the High Court.

I guess this is a tricky one. While you want the problem gamblers to be protected in some way, this will also throw up false positives on those whose gambling is under control and within their means.

There has to be a clear balance between protecting vulnerable players and driving people to unregulated casinos.
My concern is that at present if youre an active player you get flagged up without any basis eg you spend some money and they start restricting your ac without receiving any financial info. Or you play late at night yet you ALWAYS play at that time. So looks like one over zelous operator flags you without any basis and youll be restricted or even banned everywhere so then your only choice is offshore. Are offshore casinos paying marketing fees to the UKGC because if not they should be.

Don't get me wrong I understand the problem...one operator restricts a players ac so they just go open a new one. But you have to deal with the practical realities which are that unregulated offshore casinos exist. The whole go after the software providers idea falls down with the simple use of a vpn. So whilst it's a nice idea I fear All it will do is drive more people offshore. At present you get one ac closed you open another. Once however people know about the new scheme they might try once or twice to open a new UK based ac but will quickly give up and go offshore.
