Banned Users question

Another daft question. I always presumed that if a member gets banned they would be banned from forum totally and have no access. Just each day you see names of banned users that have been banned for a while have visited. Does that mean if a member is banned they can still log into the forum every day but just not post? I know its a daft question just curious as you see the same names in red have visited several days and I never thought that would be possible.

I moderate on a forum, and banned users names show up when they attempt to log in or when they have saved a site to favourites when they were logged in

Banned accounts are restricted from actually_doing_ anything but I think they can still read the forums, hence their reappearance from time to time.

Thanks for the answers. it wasn't important just me curious as id always thought banned would mean not able to log in. Now I know

If they are not logged in, they can read (like any visitor) the forums open to the public. They can not see uploaded images (screenshots for instance) or any attachments to a post. If they log in, their username appears at the bottom of the page as a logged in member, but all they see is a blank page with the reason they were banned.
