Bank robber gets to keep his $1 million lottery
He violated his probation by buying the winning ticket

BARNSTABLE, Mass. - More good luck for a convicted bank robber who won $1 million Massachusetts lottery prize.

A judge says Timothy Elliott can keep his winnings even though he violated probation when he bought the scratch-off ticket.

Elliott was put on five years probation after pleading guilty in 2006 to robbing a Cape Cod bank. Part of that probation included no gambling or buying lottery tickets.
His lawyer calls the violation minor.

Elliott has already gotten his first of 20 yearly $50,000 checks. He will now have to pay a $65 monthly probation supervisory fee, which had been waived because he was indigent.

What a friggin joke. Why bother having him tried & convicted if they're just going to basically reverse the sentence?

Oh yea, SO THEY CAN REAP THE REWARDS OF TAXES FROM THE $1M

I may be disagreed with but I must tell the truth on how I feel. Im glad he got to keep the winnings. Its a frikin lottery ticket. Maybe now he wont feel compelled to rob another bank in this materialistic society! Ill get ripped for this but I can take it!

..........granted he should maybe get to keep his winnings, but what about the 65.00 fees? i know that would maybe fall under double jep. as he was poor at the time and could not pay, now he can, thats what i have a problem with. why should it fall on the tax payers of that state to pay for his fees when he is more than able to pay now!!!

............ooops i need to be wearing those reading glasses, big difference between had and has, sorry:D

i would let him keep the money for the fact that he will no longer cost the state money. not for nothin not being able to buy a lottery ticket while on parole is a stupid guideline. parole violation guidelines and laws are 2 different things. it is not illegal to buy a lottery ticket as long as you are old enough.

Oh
yeah, I agree about the taxes thing. I was just referring to the winnings. Your right about that part :)
