An observation about casinos!

So I just happened to look at MGM Grand Casino.

And what I noticed is that if you look at the images and the people in those images. They always get people that look up market and glamorous, I mean I know this is a sure thing to get more appeal. But we all know the reasons behind it is.

So lets ask this question? What would happen to the customers if they actually shown realistic pictures and people. From all walks of life? Do you think the casino would be any worse off?

I personally do not think so at all. I just see it as another thing they do because they want to show a good image and not a negative image.

I mean take for example all the media attention the fashion and health and beauty industries get about size zero models and photo shopping the models and faking the results of their products etc etc.

I really do not get how they can get away with it. They should take pictures of real customers and then just ask if they are ok with them using it for their marketing etc etc and they could even give them some cash or a free nights stay etc etc. At least then we get a sense of it being more realistic. Instead of hiring really glamorous models and actors/actresses for the images.

Same could be said for online casinos too.

Don't give them (Government / regulators) any more ideas. All it means is more silly stupid rules.

It's an interesting point because the public image of casinos/gambling seems to be very polarised . It's not your average guy/girl having a bit of fun . It's either James Bond calmly flipping the ace of spades for a million dollars in Monte Carlo or it's a desperate gambler pawning his wife's wedding ring for one last spin on the roulette wheel
Obviously from those 2 options the casinos choose the James Bond style image to promote their casinos

I don't want to see real people in those pictures. Why would I? Then I would just start thinking about why that person is playing, if he have been lucky or lost more than he could afford. Maybe he/she have kids at home suffering from his gambling.
It's more acceptable to gamble today but that doesn't mean all people are responsible. Or things can happen ten years after the pictures are posted.

It's easy these days to find out who is in pictures, and that mean they would not be anonymous.

Yes you attract more customers with happy good looking people, or funny ones. Why scare them away?
I don't understand why you are upset over it really.

We should have in mind that when talking about casinos, we talk about a loooooot of money.
I`m pretty sure they have done some huge research or A/B testing of these photos, even the colors, buttons and everything else on their websites. When you have thousand people visiting your webisite you can change and experiment with small things like photos or colors or text and then compare. These guys are experts and they are doing the best they can to attract most people to play.

I don't see a problem with it. When I go on the Debenhams website I see beautiful models modelling clothes, I'm sure 95% of the people who buy them don't look anything like the models, the casinos are just doing the same

I always feel bad for those people I see in that kind of pictures. Real life isn't so beautiful.

Well, a little story about my Southeast Asia trip back in 2014. Firstly, there are no casinos in Vietnam (officially) but right after you cross the border with Cambodia there are casinos every 3 square meter with sexy Asian chicks on banners inviting you. So, I went in…I've never seen so many disgusting ugly dudes in one place, they were drunk/high or both, most of them had huge golden chains on their necks and wrists and generally they looked like mafia. I learnt that these dudes were more likely Vietnamese guys, who came to throw some money, since they can't gamble normally in Vietnam. Well and it’s a general feeling in Cambodia and Vietnam: I didn’t feel safe outside of touristic area. Thailand is different. I understand that it’s more developed country, but even the living conditions and accommodation standards are so much higher than for example in Vietnam (I am not even talking about Cambodia, it’s such a wild and poor country). So, in Vietnam we rented an AirBnb studio studio in a very noisy neighborhood without any sea view, and in Thainand we lived in a beautiful villa on Koh Samui island at a very decent price, found it online, which was convenient. We use the same guys for renting apartment in Spain

. Anyway, if I have to choose out of Vietnam/Cambodia/Thailand again – I would pick Thailand. As I learnt there is the same casino zone between Cambodia and Thailand, but I didn’t check it. And yeah, they also have very attractive banners, but inside it mostly looks like some mafia party and you weren't invited .
