Saw this card at a local drugstore. Anyone know if it works at casinos? I really don't want to just buy one without some idea of whether it might work or not. They also had American Express Mastercard prepaids...

I've still got 4 or 5 prepaids, that didn't work at casinos, in the bottom of my purse with anywhere from 98 cents to $2.18 left on each of them. It's a pain the ass to try to spend that last little tidbit, isn't it? :p

lmao...I thought I was the only one - without the purse of course ;)

I doubt anything that is associated with AMEX will work at any casino - online or off.

You might be able to finish off those cards at the grocery. I think I've done that at Whole Foods Market to finish off a card like that. Just don't do it when the store is crowded.

It sucks when you only have a little over $1 left on a netspend card...pretty useless.

from netspend site:

"What if I want to purchase an item that costs more than my Card balance?

To purchase an item that costs more than the balance on your Card, you must provide a second payment method -- such as cash, check, or credit card -- to cover the difference. Let the cashier know how much you will pay with each type of payment when making your purchase. Ability to do this may vary from merchant to merchant."

i assume they can do this with any card. the only trick is that you have to find a cashier who knows which buttons to push. many cashiers will groan and moan and say anything to get you to give up and just pay cash.

You can get cash advances on your Amex card in many casinos in Vegas.

Quite frankly I am appalled at all the "little" charges that acumulate with the Netspend card...I think they should be investigated. They are taking advantage of people without bank accounts, credit cards and online credit card users. I think all the fees in place are basic theft and the fee info is NOT available to you at the time of purchase.. ("fees may apply" is no fee information) Investigate them like they are doing with the pay day loan people!

actually those fees are quite small in comparison to the fees and interest one gets should they make a payment a few days late with a traditional VISA card.

the fees to load Netspend are significant, but they do offer several ways to load up for free.

If you only use your Netspend card for POS purchases, it's fine - $1 per transaction. The only time you really get screwed is if it's for a small purchase.

OK... maybe I'm being a little anal (and am defintely paranoid) but I just do not want to go signing up at half a dozen different places, just on the off chance that I might get to deposit somewhere that I trust. And then if I do deposit, how are they going to pay me? I don't see wire transfers lasting much longer. I thought about ECOcard as they are accepted at more casinos, now. But I can't figure out how to get the damn form filled in. (Not only am I paranoid, I'm an idiot.) And then what? If we move money around too much, that sends up flares ... and if we don't keep moving money around it may get 'stuck' somewhere (ala NETeller) where we can't access it. I'd like to buy a prepaid, deposit, and play. Is that too much to ask? **sigh**

I'm tired of trying to make sense of it all. I haven't gambled in forever, and I miss it. And it still pisses me off that we are in such a tangled up mess, when all we want to do is deposit a few bucks and spin a few reels.

***end rant** :D

Mousey, I can't understand what the problem is with you and that form. I signed up one evening a few months ago. I filled out some information (easy, Red asterisks show the required) clicked submit, and then an activation email was sent to me, which after clicking the link in email, my account was activated. Surely someone can help you with this. I did mine a while back and I suppose its possible they have changed the sign-up; I don't know for sure.
One other thing, let EcoCard worry about moving the money around to different Banks, they know what they're doing (you can deposit to any of their Banks around the World; this is an advantage not flares). At this time, to play, you have to be more flexible than we were in the past. EcoCard is not the same as NETeller. But there are always risks in 'this game'. You have to bend and twist a little now during these problematic deposits and withdrawals and its a little more costly in fees (depends on if you win and how much).
Its slower and as I said 'problematic', but I can still play at the Casinos I trust. Just stay up to date on the current situation; you can do that here, on this site of course.;)

You're right, Random, it's not the registration form at ECO that's put me off so long... it's trying to figure out how to get money into the account. LOL I do have an account now.

I'd rather not use my banking account right off -- anyone know which is best or least expensive between Money Gram and Western Union? I've never used either. I think my WalMart has Western Union... wonder if they do Money Grams, too?
