Hi, Where can I post my observations and collection of facts over the past 10 years regarding the local lottery?
I have been reviewing the winner history of stars lottery for the past ten years and came across some patterns that I am trying to understand. Specifically, when I analyze the distribution of winners between large cities and smaller towns in Alberta, I noticed the following by year, with the percentage of winners from large cities compared to small towns:
2015 – Large cities: 0% | Small towns: 100%

For population reference:
Large cities included: Calgary, Edmonton (including St. Albert and Sherwood Park), Lethbridge, Red Deer.
Total population: approximately 3,258,000.

Small/medium towns included: Airdrie, Grande Prairie, Medicine Hat, Leduc, Spruce Grove, Beaumont, Cochrane, Fort Saskatchewan, Camrose, Cold Lake, Lloydminster (AB side), Brooks, Chestermere, Innisfail, Ponoka and similar municipalities.
Approximate combined population: 650,000.

Based on these numbers, large cities represent approximately 83% of the combined population (3,258,000 out of 3,908,000), while small towns represent approximately 17%.
However, the observed winner percentages in multiple years show small towns receiving between 53% and 100% of winners, which is significantly higher than their population share of approximately 17%.
Given this difference, I have concerns on how winner selection is conducted and whether ticket distribution, weighting, or any other regional factors influence the outcome.
