I don't know about the slots games but i seem to recall that the national lottery itself had around a 50% house edge depending on the jackpot size. That's around 5x worse that a suicidal slots game. I don't imagine they would have that much more a conservative edge on the scratch cards.
.And that Goddam "Good causes" kitty, i`m all for charities and the like but some of these so called good causes are beyond outrageous - "Hey Roy congratz on your £5 million win, it would have been £10 million but you funded this years `Lesbian Freedom Fighters For Vegetable Rights` annual field trip to outer space to help conquer Martians suffering from Tourette Syndrome".
