Casinomeister’s Verdict

SilverSands has been around since 1999, giving it a much longer track record than most South African online casinos. That longevity counts for something, as does its broad selection of local payment methods, promotions and uncomplicated Real Time Gaming lobby.

But parts of the casino have aged alongside it. The website looks dated, withdrawals can take several working days and sticking exclusively with RTG means there’s no live casino or game variety.

With all that in mind, SilverSands is best suited to die-hard RTG fans. Its long history earns some credit, but the Anjouan license and dated setup still warrant caution. If you’ve played at SilverSands, share your experience on our forums.

From the Desk of Max Drayman

Well, that’s a blast from the past! The original SilverSands opened shortly after I got into the online casino biz — 1999 — and after several years as a big-name property in the biz i think they closed their doors around 2009 or so. Now they’re back — new ownership? — and a new website. Licensing is Anjouan which is maybe good, maybe not so good though at this point we’re all waiting for time to tell because as yet there is no clear performance record  to refer to.

Now as to the Self-exclusion and Complaints policies I’m afraid there is nothing to report because the site isn’t displaying the Terms, at all. Click on the “Terms” link and you get the Bonus Terms. So, big question marks there and it’s all TBD for now. OK, so, lovely to see the SilverSands brand back but these comments are basically incomplete because of the missing Terms.

As things stand it might be a little too early to take the casino for spin. We’ll revisit them in a bit to see how things have improved.

Pros

  • Pros Open since 1999
  • Pros Plenty of local and crypto payment options
  • Pros Regular promotions

Cons

  • Cons Real Time Gaming is the only software provider
  • Cons No live casino

SilverSands Bonuses and Promotions

SilverSands Casino isn’t short on casino bonuses. I counted over 10 bonuses, and that’s excluding the monthly promotions.

You’ll find signup offers, cashbacks, free spins, and a no deposit bonus. Working out what actually applies is less straightforward. The main website advertises the headlines, while the detailed terms sit on a separate promotions site, where some pages date back to 2022 or 2023 despite being presented as current offers.

Read the terms carefully here. Wagering ranges from 10x the deposit plus bonus to 60x the bonus and a lot of promotions require a zero balance and no pending withdrawals.

There’s plenty on offer, but the fine print turns bonus hunting into something of an admin exercise. Lucky for you, I’ve untangled it all in this SilverSands Casino review.

VIP and Loyalty Programs

SilverSands rolls its VIP and loyalty features into one gamified rewards program. You start life as a Dung Beetle and work your way up to Lion status. Quite the glow-up.

You earn points through real-money spins, deposits, missions and other activities. Points can be spent on free spins, bonus cash, deposit bonuses and mini-games without affecting your progress to the next level.

It sounds simple enough, but SilverSands doesn’t clearly publish every level threshold or tell you exactly what each reward is worth. The terms vary considerably, too. Monetary prizes require at least 1x wagering, while no-deposit rewards can carry 60x wagering and a 2x cashout cap. You may also need to deposit between consecutive free bonuses.

There are some useful rewards, but don’t assume every shiny badge leads to an easy cashout.

SilverSands Casino Payment Options and Withdrawal Speed

SilverSands has the South African basics covered, including Visa, EFT, bank transfer, Neteller and Payz. Capitec even gets its own cashier button — a small touch, but a useful one for anyone who banks with Capitec. There’s also a sizeable crypto line-up featuring Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and more.

Making a deposit is as straightforward as it gets. My R300 Capitec EFT deposit arrived within five minutes. Surprisingly painless for such an outdated wire transfer casino.

There’s a decent choice of cashout methods, including bank wire, Neteller, Payz and several cryptocurrencies. Minimum cashouts start at R200 for bank transfers and e-wallets, rising to R500 for most crypto. You can withdraw up to R100,000 per week, with all payout methods listed as free. The small print tells a slightly different story: a processing fee may apply unless staff decide to waive it. Take “free” with a pinch of salt.

SilverSands takes up to two working days to process withdrawals, with weekends and public holidays conveniently sitting this one out. Bank transfers can then take another three days to arrive. My R1,200 EFT withdrawal landed in just under 48 hours, so it arrived on schedule.

For KYC, you’ll need a passport, ID or driver’s license for your first withdrawal. If you deposited by card, SilverSands also wants a signed card verification form and copies of the card’s front and back. (You can hide the CVV and middle eight digits, thankfully.) Still, having to print, sign and email or fax card copies feels painfully dated when secure account uploads exist. Sort this out early unless you fancy some paperwork with your payout.

SilverSands Casino Games

SilverSands Casino Game Providers

SilverSands runs entirely on RealTime Gaming. RTG is an established name with a large back catalogue, so the games themselves aren’t the concern. The issue is that there’s nobody else here.

Most modern casinos offer dozens of studios. SilverSands offers one. If you enjoy RTG, lovely. If you don’t, that rather concludes your tour of the lobby.

SilverSands Casino Slots

There are more than 300 games altogether, with slots doing most of the heavy lifting. You’ll find familiar RTG titles such as Sweet 16 Blast!, Prosperity Pots: Lucky Coins and Mighty Drums, alongside video poker and RNG table games.

The collection is respectable for a single-provider casino, but it can’t compete with the variety you’ll find at larger multi-studio sites. Don’t expect branded blockbusters or a steady parade of releases from different developers.

SilverSands also has three crash-style games: Galaxy Blast, Ripcord Rush and Under Pressure. They’re tucked inside the rather unhelpful “Casual Games” category, because apparently calling them crash games would’ve been too easy.

You can try every game in Practice Mode, although you’ll need to create an account first.

Live Casino

There isn’t one. No live blackjack, roulette, baccarat or game shows. Just computer-generated versions of the classics. If you prefer real dealers, table chat or anything resembling a modern live casino, SilverSands is several years behind the pack.

SilverSands Casino Experience and Features

The SilverSands homepage looks every bit like it belongs to a casino launched in 1999. It’s dated, slightly cluttered and mostly serves as a doorway to the separate Instant Play lobby. Thankfully, things improve once you click through.

The game lobby is cleaner, faster and easier to navigate. Games are divided into basic categories and there’s no provider filter. But with RTG running the entire show, it would be a very short list anyway.

SilverSands doesn’t have an iOS or Android app. There is a Windows download, but you’ll need to use the browser version. The main website feels awkward on a smaller screen, while the actual casino lobby is surprisingly decent. Images are crisp, buttons are easy to tap and games loaded quickly during my test.

The cashier also works through the mobile browser, so you can deposit and withdraw without heading to a computer. Overall, the lobby does its job perfectly well. You just have to get past the homepage first — think of it as a small test of commitment.

Responsible Gambling

SilverSands Casino’s responsible gambling section is so tucked away that it’s hardly useful. There’s a link buried in the homepage footer, but once you enter the casino lobby, responsible gambling disappears entirely. Not exactly helpful when that’s where you’ll actually be playing.

Once you find the page, the toolkit is basic. You can set daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits, take a cooling-off period or self-exclude. None of these controls are available from your account, though. You’ll need to contact support by phone or email, which adds an unnecessary hurdle when you’re trying to take a break.

About the SilverSands Casino Team and History

SilverSands launched in 1999, making it practically prehistoric by online casino standards. It’s owned by Paxson Marketing Ltd and holds an Anjouan license.

Paxson also operates Apollo Slots, Jackpot Cash, White Lotus and Silver Sands Poker, all using the same license and familiar RTG setup.

We found no recent regulatory fines against SilverSands or Paxson. However, Paxson’s previous Kahnawake authorisation ended in November 2023. Its move from Kahnawake to Anjouan isn’t exactly a regulatory upgrade.

Complaints and Track Record

As with all my casino reviews, I checked the complaints history before reaching a verdict. Despite operating since 1999, SilverSands has nothing in Casinomeister’s Player Arbitration archive. I found a few complaints elsewhere, mainly involving delayed payouts, but the number is surprisingly low for a casino this old.

The forum history is less flattering, with older complaints about customer service and a serious 2017 allegation involving failed self-exclusion. However, there’s been very little recent noise. That’s reassuring, although SilverSands hasn’t exactly earned a spotless record either.

Player Comments on SilverSands Casino

Player comments on SilverSands lean negative, although there’s very little recent feedback to go on. Complaints mainly involve payouts, customer service and self-exclusion.

chuchu59 — I would advise other would be players to tread with caution on this one.

dominique — Silver Sands is notorious for not paying anyone. Just stay away from there.

There is at least one better ending. After forum intervention, chuchu59 confirmed: “The account was reopened and I got a little bonus from them.”

Recent feedback is limited, although the older comments still raise concerns.

Customer Support at SilverSands Casino

SilverSands covers the main support options, with 24/7 live chat, email and a toll-free South African number. I tried the live chat and reached a real person immediately after sending my message. No chatbot obstacle course or lengthy queue.

You can also call 0800 011 057 or email [email protected]. SilverSands claims that its email team responds within 30 minutes, although live chat is still the obvious choice if you need help quickly.

The FAQ section is surprisingly useful too, with answers covering payments, verification and account issues. Overall, support is one of the smoother parts of the casino.
