UKGC to Mandate Losing Streak Before Withdrawals Can Be Processed

This morning, the UKGC has announced a new ruling which can only be described as an innovative leap in responsible gambling, whereby all UK licensed online casinos will have to ensure all players must endure a mandatory losing streak before being permitted to withdraw and cash out any winnings.

Under these new guidelines, which are set to come into effect later today, players will now need to rack up a minimum of 20 consecutive losing spins, hands, or game rounds before the ‘withdrawal button’ becomes available.

According to a spokesperson from the UKGC, this new initiative is said to be aimed at increasing engagement, with the spokesperson stating:

“Winning isn’t quite meaningful unless you’ve first been kicked repeatedly in the bankroll.”

“We want players to really feel their wins! Not just financially, but spiritually. By introducing a minimum level of disappointment beforehand, we can create a more meaningful and therefore more grounded gambling experience.”

No doubt this news will likely not be received well by the player community and be seen as yet another nail in the coffin for the regulated online gambling industry in the UK. The worry is though, that many other regulated territories may follow the UKGC’s lead.

One such player contacted by Casinomeister when told of the new rule coming into force had this to say:

“I can see it now, winning £25.12 and having to wait to cash out for over three hours. Losing 20 consecutive spins on Bonanza first to do so, will make me feel strangely connected to my money now.”

This new policy will also include an optional ‘extended losing streak’ setting specifically for high rollers, whereby you can opt for 50 consecutive losses for those that seek a more ‘hardcore and immersive character building experience.’
