You thought the UKGC were bad?

UK will be £2max stake by the end of the year. Put your £2 on it! It will be due to political pressure more than anything.

Would be better if the politics take a proper look in unregulated gambling by UK citizens and how a max bet of £2 will only stimulate that. If you as a country say we need to protect our citizens, this would be the last measure to put in place as it will create the opposite effect.

Trust Germans to take it that step further, when they're not stealing people's beach towels or sun loungers
Reported for stereotyping and racism. They never stole the towels, just threw them off and replaced them with their own.

I agree. Unfortunately political point scoring is higher up the agenda than any protection for players is.

Would put my £2 that not gonna happen by end of the year, but never know... Wonder if they really can't come up with anything more effective against their RG ideas than that, of course this don't need any effort from their side, just inform operators that from next week over £2 bets not allowed.

Maybe working on systems to limit players total spending/deposits, make more sense to self-exclusions and some other stuff would help more but such a big work compare to throw these small tweaks to casinos to do.

The thing is if many casinos want to move to 94% rtp slots in the future instead of 96%, doesn't that increase rather than decrease the need for a £2 limit?

Edit: I think the best thing the casinos could do is decide what changes they would like to see, suggest things themselves, arguing for things to remain the same isn't going to be successful. The ukgc haven't really given much time to see the effect of SOW's and income level checks, I thought that was going to be their solution to problem gambling but it looks like a £2 limit is going to be added.

The UK online casino industry is so terminally screwed now. Casinos with a bookmaker element can still make a good living here but the days of casino only offerings for the UK market are almost over.

I personally don't see any need for £2 limit don't make that huge difference how many spins you need to lose too much.

Sure and there is more or less interaction between regulators and casinos but not always very efficient. Own self-made ideas always feel better and nobody don't want to hear afterwards "You let industry themselves to make their own regulations" etc... SOW thingie is originally made for AML to follow same regulations and EU directives like all other businesses, nature of gambling of course made it very useful for RG monitoring as well.

It makes no sense at all to have a £2 limit for UK online slot players when we can go to any UK land based and play £5 a spin, so really cant see it happening.

If it were to happen I would expect some companies would take it to court for that reason, online operators would say it was unfair to not be at least in line with them.

Also if your going to cap slots at £2 then its a bit stupid to not follow suit across the board with sports betting as well as how is that fair overall to have different stake limits to bets, You can't bet £10 on a slot spin but can put £2000 on a horse?

My mate regularly bets more on one football match than I do on slots in a month!

When is the UKGC going to realize that these sorts of prohibitions just won't and don't work, history has shown us this many times, making something prohibited or illegal don't make it go away it just goes underground, in this case most likely to unregulated casinos, where the player will get into even more issues, well done UKGC!

Gamblers will gamble and will always have work a around, with a £2 limit they will just play two or more sites / games at a time, have the same bet on multiple sites, get their partners, mothers, sons, daughters and the family pet to open accounts the list goes on.......

You look at the all the negative gambling stories now emerging daily in the right wing UK press recently. Thats a sure indicator that there is some more legislation coming very soon from the Tories, and its not going to be good.

It's more complicated as usual with Germans.

The games of chance/lotteries are controlled on state level, hence, you have 16 opinions, 16 lobby groups, 16 state prime ministers, 16 of everything really. Some of the states like Bavaria have a lot of land-based casinos as they are officially allowed in Spa cities only, hence, the lobbying to keep online gaming out is even more intense.

So far only Schleswig-Holstein enacted some regulation which was immediately scrapped when the political parties changed in the state government, although when they realized how much they will lose in taxes they decided to extend existing licenses until the end of 2021.

I also read a consultation where they were proposing a EUR1,000 net deposit limit per month. Any winnings would be taken into account and would not affect the limit. With about 2 million active online players/bettors you could then easily calculate the potential revenue per year and probably stay away as it would not be worth it.

However, trust "zeeee Germans" to make a totally complicated thing out of it, just like that endless word for the new gaming act. :D

Did not read about the 1 € stake limit in Germany on any website before and I live in Germany

But anyways currently this is a step forward, a few months ago they tried to suppress payment operators, then they wanted to say okay to sport betting but in exchange they wanted that the operators would remove the casino section for German players (btw. not one single operator was willing to do this). Now they gave up (ofc. tax income was one big reason) and accepted to allow "everything".

Previously they had the idea to cap the amount of licences which they scrapped. As a German I can tell you we are coming a really long way  and my only hope is that playing online will be still enjoyable after this. But nothing is finished yet, there will be a big discussion in February and since I know the politics here - there will be at least small improvements.

German and Japanese have these amazing words to describe feelings, and other things.

"
Treppenwitz.

The word literally means “staircase joke,” as in you don’t think of the retort until you’re on the stairs, leaving the scene. Then you kick yourself for not thinking faster. Shoot! Why didn’t I think of that?
"
Backpfeifengesicht, a “face that should get a slap that whistles across the cheek,” is a face that makes you want to smack that person. "

"Tsundoku (Japanese): Leaving a book unread after buying it. "

"Komorebi (Japanese): The sunlight that filters through the leaves of the trees."

This must be why they are such efficent people.
:)

Edit: Oh, this was supposed to be a reply to @Nik

Just came back from a few days Netherlands and traveled by car.
On the ferries (Irish Sea & English Channel) the slots have now a max £2.00 bet and a max win of £500.00.
Weird was that min bet was £0.50 and the only other stakes are £1.00 and £2.00.

So I find those quite high bets especially if the max prize is capped at £500.00.

Played a slot called Sherlock Holmes, was a pretty cool slot and managed to trigger FS on a £0.50 bet, got 25 FS and another retrigger for 10...Wilds remain sticky on the reels and expand before vanishing again.
Was quite good and won £130.00 on these FS, cashed right away as the RTP must be horrible on them slots on the ferries.

Huh, so a 250x max-win if you play at £2.
But i guess a somewhat low max-win is there as to not entice people to play.
