Why do you play?

Hi everyone,

People have different reasons for gambling or playing.:p
My own reason is that I purely enjoy it as the feeling of playing a game gives me satisfaction-with or without a win. I have preferences such as black jack, poker, roulette or dog races and slots (of course) but I also go to the betting place next door-once a month-and place a small bet onto a horse race, which I find very exciting if I can watch it live or online.:yahoo:
I play if I have money that I can invest and I don’t play if I need the money for other things.:D I also have times when I don’t play and do other things instead. I love the variety of games that are on the market and I am fascinated by numbers.
Please feel free to say anything you want about ‘why’ you play...

1. To have some fun.
2. To have some money out of casinos' pockets.

It's pure entertainment.
If I win I win & if I don't I don't
And never gamble what you can't afford.

My Father always told me if I gamble & make a days pay Stop playing & come back another day to see how you do that day.

Honestly?...

1. For entertainment.
2. I'm addicted.

I would admit I'm addicted, but I don't have 'a problem' because I never gamble beyond my means. When I lose, it's never so much to bother me and when I win I always withdraw and spend the money on the house and family!
I recently (last month) bought my older brother a car from Ladbrokes winnings (I'm serious). Stuff like that is very fulfilling, and probably what keeps me playing.

It's strange that in the past week I'm probably 'up' close to £5000, but I've never lost anywhere near that in a week.

I think this is how it should be. Win and give and never go ott:thumbsup:

I will keep that line in mind...It makes sense as playing has ups and downs as it is part of life. (At least in my opion.)

I gamble because I thoroughly enjoy it. Have enjoyed it for the best part of 10 years. I have a bit of disposable income after I have done everything I need to (like spoil my Girlfriend, buy gadgets...:)) .. I also buy stuff with my winnings when I have a nice win. I have spent about $12k in the last 2 months (which were purely winnings) on stuff I wanted ...so I'm all :).

I cash out when I reach my target (which is sometimes high)... Just like everyone else, I have had some insane losing streaks. its all about choosing where to play and deciding when to cash out as I have found over the years.

Slots Rock :)

I vaguely remember having a long lost sister with the initials H1R.
It's all coming back to me now......
I like Gold coloured cars BTW! Just Throwing that out there for no particular reason...!:p

Entertainment and the chance of winning something.. We all know it is a loosing game in the end, but cashing out $2000 on a $100 deposit makes up for all the deposits without a withdrawal. For me atleast.

Yes, you right, it does depend a lot 'where' you play:):)

There are ups and downs, but depositing $100 and withdrawing $2000 is certainly worth the effort:lolup::)

I'm getting more and more the impression that CM is the perfect place to be as there are 'real' players here...:) The ones I met so far seem play with their head and hearts and for the right reasons, 'and' in a very conscious way-which is good:):)

I can say the main reason I play is to try and make money.

That may sound bad but look at it this way... I know many play casinos for the entertainment... I do too, but if being given the option of winning or losing I would always choose winning.

If casinos had no cash prizes or winnings (say you pay £20 to have 200 spins on a slot to get your score high with no prize) then the reality of it would be that nobody would play them really and places like this wouldnt exist.

I rarely gamble more than I want to and if I do put a bit more in its £10 or so more, nothing drastic.

Usually my gambling time frames are as a treat. So if 1 week I work really hard at work, do loadsa extra hours and earn £100 more than usual I may put £50 or so in that week to reward myself. Alternatively I will put it towards my monthly gambling funds, then at the end of the month see what I have to gamble with and budget it. Since my job is well paid and I have next to nothing to pay out it means I can sometimes have £1000+ to budget on gambling through the month

I have been attracted by the extras, bonuses, scoreboard contests, etc. I quite like promotions where strategy can play a significant part, rather than just brute force "who can play the most in x days".

Of course, I like to WIN. Apart from money, I have won quite a few decent prizes. The most memorable by far was the early morning phonecall in 2006 telling me to prepare to be going to Germany to see the 2006 world cup final. I quickly forgave the agent the sin of phoning me at around 7am after I heard WHY:D
I also made an old friend's day, who spent the next month in a daze, unable to believe that out of the blue he was going to the world cup final in a couple of weeks.

Later that year, I got a weekend in Vegas to celebrate the launch of the new VIP program.

Then new management took over, and ran them into the ground:mad: RIP Casino Action & my VIP trip to Australia, which they were considering for the next time:mad::mad:

Then $8000 prize in a tactical wagering contest, and iPad, a couple of iPods, $2500 in travel vouchers, camcorder, Archos 5 - plus a few VIP gifts, many of them edible.

I can do all this about 3 feet from my bed, rather than having to make a long drive as I used to in search of the best fruit machines to empty.

The change in the fruit machine format around 2005/6 also pushed me towards the online version, as all the skill and much of the tactics had been removed from fruit machine games, and hardly anyone who used to play them carried on.

For me, it's more a question of why I have switched my play to the online version, as I have been a "player" since my childhood holidays at the seaside.

What an excellent question! Some very interesting responses too. For me it's for these reasons:

1) Eye candy. Visual input. Flashing lights and sounds and hypnotic spinning reels and patterns and bells and whistles and whatnot. I have always loved anything colourful and flashy since I was a kid, right back to a distinct memory of watching a guy play a fruit machine on a ferry to France with my parents when I was about 7. The lights! The lights! Like this: :eek2:;):p:what::thumbsup::oops::lolup::(:)

2) The thrill when I do win. Which is of course less than I would like.

3) To escape from reality for a little while. Although I have a pretty bitchin' reality, there's something about playing a slot which COMPLETELY absorbs me. I am literally not thinking of ANYTHING while I play. The only other activities that get me like that are fast computer games and scratching on my turntables. A kind of total immersion feeling of being "in the zone".

4) Because it's addictive!

Not to derail this thread, but I find the kind of promotions you got offered to be amazing. I mean, I would love to get a football ticket or a paid trip to Gran Canaria or something like that. A trip to Gran Canaria in the winter is pretty damn cheap from Norway, around $500 bucks. How cool would it be to get something like that instead of e andless stream of 30% deposit match bonuses up to $1000 or something.

Pretty cool of you to take your friend aswell, wish some casino would just call me to tell me that I got two tickets at the CL final :D
