As the title says, can someone tell me what the point of the UKGC?
i had a complaint with an accredited casino, was told by the ADR that they couldnt resolve it, and they advised me to approach the UKGC, who i thn raised a complaint with.
they ignored it and i eventually complained about the UKGC, and my complaint was upheld, but 5 months down the line they still havent responded to my original complaint.

So whats the point of the UKGC?????

You and me too. I am waiting for a response for nearly 4 months about my level 2 complaint about the UKGC. So you complained about the UKGC and it's been ignored, so has mine. I just don't think they are fit for purpose and it seems they choose to ignore 'inconvenient' complaints. I think it's simply there as a taxpayer-funded pot to reward civil service retirees with, an extra 10 years of work.

they still havent responded to my original complaint, but when i complained to them about the fact the original complaint was not being dealt with, i got a reply from their legal department to say that they were upholding my complaint about the UKGC, but in the intervening 2 months i still havent received an update about the initial complaint!!!

They aren't taxpayer funded, they are funded by the casinos they licence, and yes they are pointless

My first thought was that this may be a bureaucratic cock-up (ie filing the original complaint with the complaint about not responding to the original complaint :D) but as there are other and similar instances that I have heard of from time to time, it looks as if it's good old-fashioned inefficiency.

It seems responding to complaints is not the strong suite for regulators....remember how bad Malta was at one time? And as for Curacao

Yet it would appear to be a fairly simple organisational process to automatically acknowledge and log a complaint, and then monitor its progress to a conclusion.

But one should expect better from the UKGC - they clearly need a shake-up-and-wake-up.

UKGC Primary Priority & Duty: Collect license fees, taxes in essence, for the government coffers
UKGC Secondary Priority & Duty: Make sure everyone offering gambling in the UK is getting a license and paying the above
UKGC Thirs Priority & Duty: Set and keep up to date a regulation catalogue to ensure the two above

They have no interest whatsoever to help players. If you think i exaggerate then read the regulations or better give them to a lawyer specialized in contract law and he will have the laugh of his life at the sheer amount of weak formulations and loopholes. Mine certainly did. It leaves to me no other explanation than that the gambling lobby has a very strong influence on the commission. E.G. they signed-on as head of the commission somebody who has no gambling experience whatsoever!

I don't think the licensing fees cover the whole cost though, more comes from the gambling levy, which is tax.
