I don't know about laws outside of the US, but here in America, the law requires you to use your blinker OR a hand signal whenever you change lanes.

I would really like some input as to why people do not use their turn signals?

Any given day I could be driving along the freeway, and literally 4 out of 5 cars are changing lanes without using a signal....and at high speeds!!! Not only is this very dangerous and is considered breaking the law, but it lacks common courtesy.

When driving in a car, using your blinker is pretty much your only communication with other vehicles on the road.

Normally I am a very mild tempered person. You could stand in front of me and cuss me out, and I will more than likely just say have a nice day and go about my business. But if you cut in front of me....even if you are quite a distance ahead of me, I am likely to honk my horn at you and cuss you out.

After much reading, the only plausible reason I could find for people not using their signals is that they need to get over, and they figure if they use their signal, the other car will speed up so they cannot change lanes. I guess that makes sense in todays society.....people just figure that everyone has a me first mentality.

Other excuses were: Too lazy, didn't think I had to, its not important.

In other words.....Sorry but I am the most important person on the road, and I have somewhere I have to be.....besides its hard to use my blinker while I talk on my cell phone and sip on my latte.

Would really like some thoughts of those people who refuse to use their blinkers....

I use my turn signal 98% of the time. The only times I won't use it is when I'm near home ( I live in a rural area and traffic is almost nonexistent). But I have noticed that certain types of cars aren't equipped with turn signals (add sarcasm) and this can be the ONLY plausible excuse I can think of for lack of usage.

It is common practice in parts of the world to 'Speed Up' when people indicate their intention to change lanes... Thats just selfish or on the other hand preventing an annoying driver (too much on the brakes or going nowhere slowly) from getting infront of you...

What annoys me most is if you are in a dual lane (able to go straight and turn right) and the driver ahead waits until you get to the intersection and then decides to use his/her blinker!!!

Or then again, there's the driver who will travel for miles making a right hand turn (what? are they looking for a break in the guard rail???). Or the one who turns on their right turn signal and they really mean their left (is this turn signal dyslexia?). Or how about the ones who insist on driving in the hammer lane, only to drive as fast as the car next to them? And then one of my favorites...The idiots who are talking on their cell phones and stop for the green light and go for the red light cause they can't do 2 things at once.

And I'm sorry, I know I'm older, but how the hell do you drive and text at the same time??????

I live in Nashville and let me tell ya....the rule here is to never use a turn signal.... Its so annoying. I didnt get my license here so I actually USE my turn signals.....I40 and I24 are deathtraps I avoid them at all cost. They drive well over the 70mph posted speed limit and bob and weave blinkerless all day long.....

Road Rage!!! The number one effect of people NOT driving according to the driving laws and rules.

I am a very defensive driver, always "expect" the drivers around me to not use signals, not use headlights properly, and wait until the last minute to apply the brakes as they coming screaming up on my rear end at a stoplight signal. As long as they are not multi-tasking by talking on their cell phone, and putting on make up, and reading a road map as they sip out of their coffee mug, I figure I just "might" make my way around them safely. And, the benefits are that my eye muscles are very, very strong!! :p

People. Gotta love 'em!!!! :D

Interesting to know... Road Rage cannot be avoided. I am also a very defensive driver, but there have been times where i ended up in a car chase cos i wanted to beat the Shyt outta some freaks. Some people have total disregard for the safety of themselves and those around them. Other drivers are just plain arrogant and should be given a biatch slap...

I am always cautious and courteous on the road... Wish others could show the same..

:D
