Reading about the UK cookie law, any thoughts? Looks like this will affect some OC's website operating functions, they must be corrected.

"A year ago on 26 May 2011, the Information Commissioner published new guidance and announced that he would allow organizations a year-long period to work towards compliance with the new changes."

Enforcement would be a problem when it comes to offshore websites, however when secondary licensing comes into effect, it will provide an enforcement opportunity by making compliance with UK cookie law part of the process for obtaining and keeping the license. The cookie law is likely to be adopted in some form throughout the EU, and will probably affect EU licensed operators much sooner. However, most seem to be based in Malta, who can't even enforce their own licensing conditions, let alone those of the UK and the rest of the EU.

Another Nanny state.

Every browser has a cookie control, and there are many software packages that can assist one in dealing with unwanted cookies. But the UK government needs to jump in and set things right. :D

The general opinion from most people is that this is really put in place to control/regulate the big advertising, marketing and spam networks. I think most smaller sites are taking the "wait and see what happens" approach.

It's an EU directive so there is or there will be something in Germany as well. someone has decided that the controls in browsers are too difficult for ordinary people,
