They use their own proprietary 'SlotLand software'. The software is Java based (Applet), and this is not the best for making smooth and nice looking GUI's. Especially not using the Java available in 1998 when they started and which they have not developed much since. But they must have some been some of the pioneers in Java applets for business purpose at that time, so I am a little impressed by this fact, but this is the only good I can say about them. A shame they gave up their leading position in this field and not improving one dime in the next 10 years. (They have developed some Mobile gaming though, which I have not seen).

The few times I have played there the software (server-side) was incredible slow. Up to 10 seconds for each spin/hand which makes you quit very fast. I did not have to patience to play at my usual 0.25$/spin. So I blew it in a few 5$ spins because I had wagering requirement from bonuses. The slots were utterly boring, just reels, not features or anything and also no theme appeal.
They might have been acceptable in 1998, but not in 2002.

They are known to pay customers, if any customer should be so lucky to beat the gigantic house edge there is on these slots. I estimate payout to be no higher than 90%.

But the killing blow is their 'video-poker'. It is not random, it is slot/lottery based logic and the card are just made up to visualize a winning combination. They have never admitted( or denied) their fake video-poker and they are also not making customers aware of this.

I have played here for about a year, and this was because they were on GoneGambling, not for any other reason. There is an indication in the terms that everything is slot based, although it can be easily missed. The software is NOT all that smooth, but the same can be said of Lasseters when it comes to having to wait ages each time you want to move to a different game.
They restrict themselves by sticking to 1998 technology when the rest of the industry has moved forwards. At the time, downloaded casino software was a serious imposition on the average PC, but PC's have moved forward and this is no longer the case. I actually prefer download software, as once downloaded the games can be that much better and still run fast because interaction with the server is kept to just sending a request and a result (and even THIS is too much activity for the likes of Microgaming:mad:)

Whatever game you might find on Slotland, it's just a slot, nothing more - there is no "strategy" as such for their "blackjack" and "video poker" styled slots.

I have not heard of any payment issues with them (yet), but I expect they are a relatively small niche operation that has not grown along with the rest of the industry.
Because of their use of Java though, they are probably well placed to easily convert their games for mobile phone play, and maybe this is their main focus now. They had better be quick though, as the rest of the industry is now serious about this market.

I gotta laugh whenever I think of their software. It's soooo behind the times. I cannot believe that they are still around this long and haven't updated anything. And yes.... I used to play there long ago. Tightest slots in the world me thinks!

Agreed. Slotland was one of the first online casinos I ever played at. Back then, it was a great experience (many, many, many years ago).

Doesn't have to be downloadable, there are some great flash-based casinos. B3W comes to mind. It would be a step forward for them to update their slots into a flash version with a bit more variety.

I guess their main market will always be newcomers to the online casino world

They do suck pretty much. I would put their software as a tie with 1cnp (are they still around?)

Looks like they went under back mid year. What a shame.

They were listed here for a few years - and they were very reliable. They promptly paid customers - and they had a pretty good following. I've been to their Prague offices, and Ray - their VP of operations was here in the studio and was interviewed by Vortran and me (November 2003):
Old URL

There was an issue a couple of years ago about the VP being a slot. They were to update their game descriptions to detail this, but I don't think they ever did. So they kinda fell to the wayside.

Too bad - they never got past 1998. If they only spent more time getting out of Java and tackling Flash for instance, they would have been much more successful IMO.

Complaints and negative issues concerning Slotland are seldom seen (excluding the VP)

There are still quite a few people out there who use webtv and other outdated platforms.

These folks are pretty much dependent on Slotland, it's the only decent place out there where they can play.

So they have an audience, and they treat them well.

There are also people who consider them a "classic" and have almost a cult.

Once you get over the slowness, you find the slots have some really unique features and bonuses.

Just be aware that all of Slotlands games are based on a slots mechanism. Even though they have slots that resemble VP and BJ, they are still all slots.

I think they should likely add Java, but I don't think they should trash the old versions. They are historic and totally unique and as long as there are people who enjoy them, I don't see getting rid of them.

Hey hey hey! You are insulting a lot of Java programmers now!
But you are right that the strong side of Java is server side but the GUI side has improved a lot since 1998. It is just a a lot harder to make GUI applications with Java compared to Flash, but they had the skills in 1998. Shame they did not improve with the technology.

There are several free online 5-reel slots (applets) available online that are much better than Slotland slot and they are made by 1 programmer in his sparetime.

Where???

These still suck but compare to Slotland:

I can not find the one I wanted, I once found a pookie (australian) applet slot with freespins.

But to see some graphics examples of what you actually can do with Java, you can try clicking on different applets-icons on this page.

The 'fireball' applet is especially cool. (sorry can not get direct link, you can to press the icon)

It is all calculated and then draw and not a pre-recorded animation. Of course using animations is exactly what the slots does (when win line symbols
start animating).

I knew Dom would show up. She looooves Slotland :D :p

Hehe, I do always defend them.

I still get a few hundred webtv users every month who are looking for places to play and that's the only place I recommend for them. The alternative is Casino Bar (yes, that's still rattling around out there) and that is as rogue as they come. And we still have click2play. Also rogue.

Those are the only alternatives for people with those old platforms. So Slotland is definitely the best of it's breed.

Also, some of the features of the Slotland slots I would love to see on more slots, like the booster that lets you up a bet before a pending win. They also convert loyalty points into money as you play, all you have to do is click on it and you can play it right there. No going off to the cashier and these comps are generous compared to most.

They have a lot of good things going, just the software is antiquated.

Last not least, I hate seeing all the old stuff destroyed. On my recent trip to Vegas I had a nice room with a view down the strip, and all I saw was freaking cranes. Vegas should keep some of the historic places, update the rooms and restaurants, add some new games but keep the old time ambiance. Some day they will be trying to recreate all that stuff they destroy now.

slotland? great customer service! very bad cover-up!!

i used to love slotland. then i asked for a printout of my plays. their first response was they could not give me that information. well they finally decided to send me my spins. much to my surprise it was not my spins. they finally ended up giving me some money back. as much trouble as they gave me i think they should have given me all of my money. they absolutely cheated and then they acted like it was me.
i asked about there "accredidation from the gambling commissioner" because i could not get through to that web site. they had gone gambling take over their bogus commissioner spot. john from gone gambling then wrote nasty things to me. he called me a stupid bitch. getting caught at cheating raises the blood pressure of any of these sites. but calling people names and trying to cover up only makes it worse. at this point i will never stop warning people about my bad experience with slotland and gone gambling.

the support group at slotland is the best but the cheating and trying to cover it up out weighs the support that you get. if they try to deny any of this i will be glad to share the e-mails.

GoneGambling have nothing to do with whether Slotland supplied play logs or not, or were rude or not. Slotland (and other casinos for that matter) sponsor the games and prizes on GoneGambling. This is done through buying advertising space, and/or agreeing to sponsor prizes won from GoneGambling games. This takes the form of a GoneGambling game giving a player a prize, say $10 in bonus chips, and the casino giving the GoneGambling player this prize into their casino account.
Post UIGEA, the loss of casinos to US players had a drastic impact on this kind of forum, where members can win bonuses with casinos. Since GoneGambling had a high proportion of US members, it could not generate enough new sign-ups for the casinos who advertised there, and thus they pulled out, and income from GoneGambling dropped. Now, a new site has been set up by GoneGambling, (TAG City) which offers games in a different legal framework. Although free for a long time, this site has introduced a chargeable category which now offers members extra priviliges on the main Gonegambling site. This has created a situation where a number of embittered members have basically "thrown a tantrum" and "thown their toys out of the pram". These members have been accused of not wanting to pay their way to help keep GoneGambling going, yet expect to get the same level of prizes and priviliges as members who DO help out by buying a membership of the other site and using this to earn the extras offered by GoneGambling.

John is very abrupt and to the point, he won't beat around the bush when he has something to say, he will simply say it, and to your face. This often comes as a shock to those who expect to be humoured. One or two embittered members threatened that they would retaliate against this perceived slight by taking every opportunity to "punish" GoneGambling by defaming the company and it's representatives.

Many GoneGambling members will believe this action in dredging up this old post has more to do with taking a swing at GoneGambling, rather than venting at Slotland for not being able to supply gamelogs, and having "crap out of date software".

As for slotland itself, ALL the games ARE SLOTS! This INCLUDES VP and "Spacejack" games. There is a site-wide progressive jackpot, and this uses a central mechanism, such as the random jackpots seen with RTG slots. In order to accommodate this on some games, they have to be weighted, and have a special block on the jackpot combination where the central jackpot has NOT been awarded, and also an override to display it when it has.

In Spacejacks, if you win the central progressive you will be dealt 3 Blackjacks, otherwise you will not. The odds of being dealt the three blackjacks is not the same as with a random deck(s), although it is likely that other outcomes are not "fiddled" as there is no need to once the non-progressive winning hands are dealt.
Where a Royal Flush in the VP awards the progressive, this again will not have the natural 1 in approx 40,000 hands ocurrance, but will be triggered by an award of the progressive, and blocked if it is not awarded.

The cheating allegations a while back were down to a lack of clarity on the website as to how these games operated as slots, yet were presented as something different, and with different expectations.
They still could be clearer, as they do not go further than explaining the progressive is awarded by a central mechanism, but do not make it clear enough that this leasds to some games being "non random" in terms of the playing devices they present to the player.

Well said Vinylweatherman if I could give
ya 5 stars you would get em

an I am sure John an Trish ty for this post also

an Good luck

I had some really good wins with slotland but unfortunately never cashed out so I'm not sure what their cashout procedures are, I had cashout problems with all of the RTG casinos but no problems with Bellerock/Microgamimg casinos..I would recommend just playing at Bellerock Casinos, like Riverbelle, The Gaming Club etc. Good Luck to you
