this from a source undercover ,that cable isp., are toying with the idea of monitoring the hours we spend on line to classify a teared price charging

like 1 price for light user

2 price for commercial user

only time will tell if my little birdie is correct

As long as the competition keeps growing between ISPs I wouldn't worry if some a them decided to charge by the quarter minute. The more iPhones and iPads that come out means a bigger slice a pie for alla those companies, again, making connectivity cheaper for everyone - not that wi-fi is worth a damn - the cheap bastids!

ok here is some corroborating print from comcast

What will happen if I exceed 250 GB of data usage in a month?
The vast majority - more than 99% - of Comcast customers will not be impacted by a 250 GB monthly bandwidth or data usage threshold. If a customer exceeds more than 250 GB and is one of the heaviest data users who consume the most data on our high-speed Internet service, he or she may receive a call from Comcast's Customer Security Assurance ("CSA") group to notify them of excessive use. At that time, Comcast will tell the customer exactly how much data per month he or she had used. When we call these customers, we try to help them identify the source of excessive use and ask them to moderate their usage, which the vast majority do voluntarily.

If a customer who has been contacted by Comcasts CSA team is contacted again for excessive use within six months of the first contact that customers service will be subject to termination for one year. We know from experience that most customers curb their usage after our first call. If a customers account is terminated, after the one year period expires the customer may resume service by subscribing to a service plan appropriate to his or her needs.

Our practice for the past several years has been to call only our heaviest data users, and this practice remains the same now that the 250GB data usage threshold is in effect. We may change our practice but will, of course, provide notice to customers of any change.

now usage size to me is all Greek and i cant grasp it , can some one in the game remark on this

I would think that the usage volume they are warning against is the kind of volume that can only be used by someone in the mass-spamming racket. Why they would suspend for a year rather than just charge a premium. But I'm guessing. Can anyone shine a knows-f'shizzle'-light on this?

My ISP offers 3 tiers of service...light, standard and premium, with varying prices.

The Standand, at 60 GB is not hard to exceed if you watch a lot of streaming video or download a lot of stuff. I had to split downloading the entirity of Babylon5 into two months. I'm in Canada, where such activity is not illegal.

Using rogers cable connection at the moment. Last year they went to the 3 tiers of usage. My internet cost went from 45 month to 75 month due to computer usage. Soon they will be telling us if you turn channel 8 on more then 20 times in a month there is a extra charge for this.

Very interesting. I use TW Cable, who also delivers my digital HD Cable TV, my land line digital telephone service, and 19Mbps (varible speeds via Roadrunner HS Cable w/Power Boost) Internet connection w/CA Security Suite. I have all of HBO, Showtime, et al, unlimited telephone and Internet service all delivered via TW's fiber optics cable network (to point of entry where at that point the house is wired with RG6Quad coaxel) for 129/mo. No mention, yet, of tiered billing. Downloading a 2 hr movie takes about 10-15 mins.

i got more info on this it seams to and it was said that it's aimed at [and i dident know that this was going omm ] boot legging movies, and music
for black market sales
