Please stop making slots mute their sound when you tab out

This seems to be getting more and more common, Playtech have been doing this for a while, but ELK has also followed in their footsteps. I don't understand why though, and why isn't there an option to disable it?

I really like to hear the slot sound when I'm playing, but sometimes i have to tab out to reply to discord, check something else, write an email, or I'm just having the slot playing on the 2nd monitor, there are plenty of valid reasons for wanting the sound to keep playing.

I would really like to know why this is being done, so please let me know if any slot producers read this.

Could actually be a browser issue, this, rather than something in the developer's hands.

Try opening new windows rather than tabs; don't minimise the new window, but literally make it as small as possible and stick in the corner of the screen. A possible workaround.

On a similar note - if casinos could stop placing their logos and banners and other crap over games, that would be helpful. Playing on mobile should be a decent screen size, except increasingly around 15-20% of the screen is taken up with a banner showing the casino logo and your balance. WHICH IS ALREADY SHOWN IN THE GAME.

Nngh.

I have searched for ways to fix it, but there is nothing to find, i have also gone through all the settings under chrome://flags/ nothing seesm to work, reinstalled the browser, reset all settings and reinstalled it. I can move the browser window around, and it plays the sound as long as it's in focus, but it stops as soon as i click on something else.

The only thing that works is changing to a slot by a different provider.

I never play on mobile, so i don't know how it looks, but i totally agree with you if it's like you said.

Pretty sure this is a browser issue, like when people couldn't multi run battle of slots, but a solution was found.
It's something chrome did to reduce resources of a tab when they were not in use.

Don't think have any issues like this, just make sure you don't minimise the window

I don't minimize the window, i tab to another to write something, or read something, etc.

If it was a browser issue, wouldn't it also happen to other slots than Playtech and ELK? I can tab out just fine while hearing the slot sounds when i play BTG, Play'n Go, Netent, Nolimit, Push.

Not saying it's not chrome, they have a pretty bad track record for messing up things, just seems strange that so few providers are affected by it.

It's not just changing tabs, opening the Battle of slots on videoslots for example, also stops the sounds.

I started to notice this too with ELK's Miss Wildfire slot. I play alot of ELK slots (love Lakes Five/Sam on the Beach!). The older games do not seem to have issues so seems to be a new development? :/

As peeps already mentioned this seems a browser issue, not only sound stopping but in most cases as soon as you fullscreen any other tab or separate window (game or movieplayer) the other ones stop running, and either become static, to instantly resume on re-opening, or worse - time out, and at least needing a refresh, or new login...

Very inconvenient and much to my chagrin, as i almost always gamble 'in the background', due to the grinding nature of the games i play :p
Hope this will get fixed in the future - i'm sure some one will find a trick! If so, please update here ^.^

Not sure about the sound issue, not one I have come up against.

But the fix for freezing chrome windows is this:

Found the fix for this:

Open Chrome and type in the address bar chrome://flags/ then go to or search for " Calculate window occlusion on Windows " and disable it.

enjoy.

I prefer to play without sound as sound is designed to keep you playing and those sounds of 'near misses' stop you moving away from a game because you feel a bonus is 'due.' I think this problem is actually helping you.

Windows never has done multi threading effectively.. If it was running a browser in Unix O/S it works well.

Windows has problem multi tasking - it will allow multiple windows open but window in focus will have control of things like sound. Unix works well with multi tasking and does it well. I checked for relevant articles and you have covered the areas that could affect this. Any browser extensions that might impact it?

Ah no I with this happened more, sometimes I need to stop to do something else but don't want to close the game, and the music gets so annoying or distracting I end up turning the sound off on my laptop

Thanks going to test it out if it works. I run slots on auto and if I open something up in full screen it just stop just like that.
Thought it was no issue with Firefox with that.

Its a Chrome issue and it does work, it's not needed on firefox.

As a slot client dev I can confirm that this is prolly something that is because of chromes autoplay/sound policy.

My bet would be that this is since one of these updates:
You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.

or
You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.

(They are old but some providers are slow on updating.)

However, there ARE workarounds but they require you to implement your sound system a bit differently for desktop vs. mobile if you want your sound to be able to play on a visible but unfocused tab on desktop. Where I work we have two different sound systems to be able to have this functionality and while that does give this possibility it also does mean that we need to maintain 2 systems.
Elk/playtech have prolly prioritized a streamlined maintenance/production flow over perfect functionality and have focused on mobile devices, pretty reasonable considering since it's the majority of the customer base (~60/40 was latest numbers I saw for our users) and a lot of casinos doesn't even allow multiple games open at the same time anyways.

Thanks for the reply, it's somewhere along the lines of what i thought, but I have checked all the chrome settings i could think of, and i couldn't find a workaround.

I guess the Media Engagement makes sense for the average user, but not so much for multi monitor users that do a lot of multitasking. I often like to watch some stream, youtube video or play a game while having a slot auto playing on the other monitor, so it's not about playing several slots at once.

And to be honest many of the slots are very boring in the base game, and take an eternity to get free spins on, so it's very naive of them to think they can have 100% of my attention.

Edit: Went through the Miss Wildfire code on videoslots, and it does have some lines about sound if the game is in focus or not.
