Bill proposes to limit gaming to 7 counties
Areas without established casino industry would be barred

The gaming industry could be limited to the seven Mississippi counties that already have casinos under a controversial bill expected to hit the Senate floor today.



The legislation isn't aimed at hurting existing casinos, said principal author Sen. Lee Yancey. Rather it is to prevent expansion to other areas, he said.

"This has been a concern for a lot of people who do not desire to see casinos come to their part of the state," Yancey, R-Brandon, said. "This basically clarifies the law and answers the question of where exactly a casino can build."

Some senators who voted against the bill debated in the Finance Committee on Thursday say the choice should be left up to residents.

Under current state statute, casinos are allowed in the three coastal counties and in counties along the Mississippi River.

Five of the 11 river counties have casinos including Adams, Coahoma, Tunica, Warren and ...

Yea, Right...I'd like to know who exactly those people are...let me wager a guess here...maybe "The Southern Baptist Convention" or the "Holy Rollers At Large & Rampant" groups...:lolup:

I swear these folks never cease to amaze me at trying to spread their radical beliefs on the general populace through religion....:mad:

Or perhaps Republican Governor Haley Barbour protecting his favorite casinos!
 
Yea I kinda agree Nash...but still seems like he would want his favorite casinos to spread out a little more through out the state for added revenues...
He very well may but he is a lawyer/lobbyist/ and now likes alot of attention politician so the possibilities are endless,lol, and he knows the game well! Just spectulating as Mississippi is an angel when it comes to gaming corruption compared to Nevada!

Yep...you definitely right about that...:lolup:, but with politicians like Barbour who needs criminals...:D
