When you make a post, just click on "upload a file" under the text input box.
Select the photo on your computer, and click "open".
When you come back to the post, click on "insert full image".

If your file is too big (as many photos are these days): open with "paint" or similar, reduce size & save as a JPEG.

Instead of an avatar, you do that? That sounds like directions for adding a photo to a post(?) Oh, and it says I can't upload a file because I haven't posted enough.

Dosena, what you can do might be limited by your privileges, but click your own name near Top Right, and one of the choices should be Avatar. I think there are a bunch of stock ones, you might need a higher level for custom.

Hello Lisa, welcome! I am new here too also from California (Los Angeles) as well but I have been living overseas for a few decades. This is an extensive and great forum with helpful rather cheerful witty people. FYI, it seems there are not many Americans here and a lot of from Europe and the UK (The sites name gave it away for me).
