Hi everybody. I know it's not about online casinos or gambling but I need your advice.
As you know I had few good wins last week, hitting free spins (bet365), my lucky number 28 on roulette (BetVoyager) and some another wins, so I made almost $15k profit. And question was: well, Monster, you've won some cash. You may leave some money for gambling, some money for life and entertainment. And you will do it. But you will still have a lot of money. And I decided to visit my parents and buy them something which will remind about me. Haven't been at home for ages, not because I'm bad son, just because I'm working hard, and my work is not about sitting in office and paperpushing. So I cannot see my parents very often. They're elderly people and cannot come and visit me, they're only able to give me a call sometimes (or I call them). Well, and now I need your advice: what to buy them for present? I have almost 10 thousand dollars for consuming. Thanks in advance. Regards, Monster.

The Monster Kid

If they are elderly and don't get out much buy them both a good message chair that has the heat control on it.
And get them a big screen tv too.
If they can go on a little Vac send them to a nice elderly resort they have.

Hey Slot

I have an idea that I we got our elderly aunt and uncle

1. 6 months of every week maid service
2. meal delivery service so they dont have to cook
3. If they dont drive, car service

And get them a big screen tv too.

Didn't I just read somewhere big screen tvs take up A LOT of electricity? Which in turn would make their electric bill high. (not sure if it's true, I can't remember where I read it)

I like Babs ideas.

How about some gift certificates to the grocery store they visit. Restaurants they enjoy. Drug store.

Everyone likes gift certificates, then you can buy whatever you want. I guess it depends on how much you want to spend on them.

I can't speak for the Plasma, DLP or Projection TV's, but I can say for a fact that my LCD doesn't consume more electricity than a normal CRT TV...in actuality, I believe it takes up less to run....either way, the change is so minute that it really doesn't play a factor.

I went from a 19" CRT TV to a 32" LCD and didn't notice any changes in my bill..:)

I'm assuming that larger TV's won't be much of an issue either...technology is progressing so fast these days and they're definitely taking power consumption into consideration when producing these big screen models.

After thinking and looking at your everyday services that people use.
Get them a grocery store card They need to eat good. that is thee best I can think of too.
Or pay for the everyday stuff Gas/Oil for the year.Credit on the phone bill so they can call you more.
I get my mother the grocery store one all the time because our parents have everything lol
As for the electricity for that tv pay that bill too for sometime.
Let them both enjoy life.
We only have one set of parents.

the mini vacation idea sounds like a good one, but i think the trip home and your parents seeing you again will be the best present imo..........doing things as a family, looking at old photos, visiting your other family members, those things dont cost money......maybe a gift certificate at a dept. store before you leave, so that they can buy something they need, you sound like a caring son:thumbsup:

Now I'm going to have to try to remember where I read that...I'm thinking on yahoo?

So we can get a big screen tv now :D Hubby will be happy...lol

Hey Slotmonster...first congrats on the win
My suggestion would be to wait until you go to see your parents and see if/what they are in need of.
One thing you might think about doing for your parents to remember you, is to take lots of pictures while you're visiting with your parents(make sure they are in most of them) and make a photo album for them. It is a great keepsake.
Anything that will make life alittle easier for your parents would also be a great gift to them.
Good luck in finding the perfect gift. :)

I agree visit for sure
then as you enjoy their company
sit back an observe what they may need
are they pinching penny's on this or that
be on the outside loooking in you will be surprised at what
you will see
this is a great idea you have here
you are a Good Son ;)
stand tall an be proud

Good Luck
Cindy

As a mother, I can tell you that money would NEVER buy the time I have with my children, and it cannot buy the memories of those precious moments we spend together.

I lost my mother last August, and sad but true, it happens to us all. I suggest to rearrange your schedule and MAKE time to give them 2 small days of your life. The joy it will bring them, money couldn't possibly buy. Just my thoughts.

I agree Sissy but sometimes that just doesnt work out. Take my brother for instance, his job brought him to Singapore for 5 years, he's done almost 3 already. My dad did visit but its a 22 hour flight for him and he's 78. They see each other a few times a year and its not enuf but cant be helped these days with all of the traveling and extra work americans do.

Anyway, I think ppl here are on the right track with food certificates and what i mentioned. I dont think the bigger tv will bring that much extra electricity, They can always compensate by not using elsewhere or unplugging things they dont use. You can switch to the new light bulbs. Hey Slot, thats a thought. Soon they will HAVE to use those new bulbs and they can be pricy at start because you have alot to replace.

Do they own a home and like manicured lawns? You can also do a lawn service for them in advanced too . Do they like wine? They have some nice wine clubs and fruit of the month clubs. How about water aerobics? My elderly aunt loved those and she was 80. It keeps them in shape without the hard impact.

Slot,,,, do this buddy...there are companies out there now that have been making Video Telephones for years now, call a local company in the general location where your parents live and have them go out and install one for them and you will also need to install one at your place too...this can be done at both locations for about the same price or less than what you would be paying for a big screen TV,, and this way when you call them or they call you, then you guys will be able to enjoy each others company as you will be looking at each other while you are also speaking to one another...get the ones with the satellite feed...

Most of the suggestions I've read above are great but I believe you making the time to visit them and really catch up would be the best. I lost both my mom and dad many years ago and there is not a day that goes by that I don't think of them. Wish I had a few more days with them even now.
We only get so many revolutions around the Sun. Do it now.

Thanks, heatherad! IMO it's the best way to give them what they really need. But in any case I'm going to bring them few souvenires :)

Just buy them a computer and teach them the ropes.
And buy a Web Cam so this way you can see & talk to them all the time you like.
Most Web Cam services are free like yahoo.
And the computer can be a cheappie one too.

Just Go Visit Them In The Year More

And as a son of my parents I understand you, Sissy. I'm not telling about replace time with money or goods, I just want to give them something to remind that somewhere there is a loving son who always remember about them.

You're absolutely right! That's why I want to spend some more time with my parents!

Hey I have a better idea lol
Bring them here to Ct Or I'll just have to pick all of you up and I will be the tour guide for all of you. What a great little Vacation Mom,Dad & Son oh and me lol
Rent the bus for a week or two and show them around the best two casinos in the World.
And if they need care for any reason I'll do that too.

Thank you for proposal, BingoT, but they're living in the Republic of Belarus. And Belarus is at the other end of the earth  It will be too hard for them to visit Ct, sorry.

You sound like a sweetheart, I am more than certain they carry your love in their hearts as well as their pride in you. Good luck with whatever you decide hun!! And be proud of your choice because you are making it for all the right reasons.

THAT Video phone was what I was thinking! This really touched my heart. I think about winning the MM 5mil and what I could do for my family & friends ALL the time.
You might just in casual conversation ask them what they would do if they won X amount of money. I was shocked when my mom said she would "buy a new oven and stove" I had no idea hers had been broken for months maybe longer! Parents dont like to burden thier kids with problems so they dont tell us. Maybe corner your dad and ask what he would do for your mom and then corner your mom and ask what she would do for your dad?

I hope you find the perfect gift, you are a good son! ANd CONGRATS on your win!!!

Damn Rob, you beat me to it although I am more for video mobile phones. Actually, I would think at least 1 in every 10 people in Hong Kong have these phones which have a lot of other functions like taking photos and they should be pretty cheap too.
