It is the Grand National on Saturday, the most famous race in the calendar.

I have been doing some research to try and find out what is going to win the Grand National tomorrow. Found this useful site that gives you plenty of different ways to pick the winner, be it a bit of form analysis, seeing which horses go on the ground, or even silly things such as the star sign of the horse or just a plain lucky dip!

Seems there is something for everyone, for the more accomplished punters there is something about stats but I will leave that for the pros!

and on the basis of the information on there I have decided to have an each way bet on a horse called Simon, simple name!

How will you be backing in the Grand National?

Anyone got any good tips?

Ask my Dad what he is backing, and then ask him what he WOULD have backed before deeper analysis.

I then back those he rejects - this was a very good system when I was younger:D

The Grand National is a problem because of the high probability of fallers, unseated riders, etc; So analysis of form is not really any better than sticking a pin in the page.

Probably best to back an outsider or three each way who have a decent chance from the form figures, and hope the favourite(s) will be fallers.

Friend of mine here in the US used to put Kitty Stars cat food on each horse's name on the racing form and which ever one his cat ate was the one he bet on. Course he drank a lot of beer too. But Miss Kitty was as good a handicapper as most. Might work for you.

I won a handicapping contest at a horse track here once by just picking names. Won $1500 on 5 out of 6 pick 6 at another track on a $2 ticket. And believe me I am no handicapper. But I sure make the boys feel stupid when I win with my strategy. :D

The National is pure luck, hardly any form or analysis is required. I shoved a few 10 spots on a few 66-1 each ways with paddy power as they were giving each way up to 5th place which was fair odds I thought, well anyways to cut a short story even shorter, 1 fell early enough another 1 took root as it was hardly moving and the 3rd spontaneously combusted ( I think ). I was going to put money on the winner but I didn'y know who that was gonna be at the time. It was a great laff in the bookies though!!!
How did everyone get on?
