LOTR Being Decommissioned May 31?

The whole thing has been a mess - good riddance.

We were promised three versions, yet when the second (crappier) version came along, they pulled the more popular first version. Now they are pulling the second and it seems have given up on the third altogether. In all this, they have refused to explain WTF this is all about, all we have is speculation.

It is all the more bizzare because MGS just don't "do" old game removal, and we have a bloated selection of games because of this, and even when there are complaints that there are too many and it makes the download unmanageable, they STILL refuse to even discuss pruning out the less popular games.

Are we now going to have a policy of "limited time availabilty" games on the model of LOTR, rather than permanent licensing as seen with the Tomb Raider franchise?

The removal of LOTR will also remove a game from the "Mega Moolah" series, which in turn will slow the pool growth and frequency of hits. This is a U-turn on the policy of expanding the "Mega Moolah" series through adding progressive variants of other slots, such as Isis and 5 Reel Drive.

When I was at ICE this year I saw a slot from another provider Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers, so maybe because they had the licence, Microgaming weren't able to launch the second game..?

Sorry, I've completely forgotten who this other provider was... :o
{Edit} It was WMS - thanks Google!

This is purely speculative, but my first thought was that the online licence for MG was time-limited and WMS have offered more to get their version online as the two couldn't co-exist. Would sorta be logical considering how big the brand is in land-based now and the US edges ever closer.

It's always possible the cost of the licence meant the slot wasn't as profitable as hoped of course. Hopefully some time we'll find out. I sincerely hope this isn't a new policy but I think that's unlikely.

I`ve heard a rumour that is being decommissioned due to someone hitting a x20 bet size return in the free spins round :eek2:.

Come on Seventh, no one will believe a story like that!

10x stake, maybe.

Whatever MG did when they 'progressive-ified' this game, it certainly got all kinds of messed up, and it's a classic example of why MG's blanket 'slots pay out at 95%' statement just isn't good enough, I really do want to know what the progressive contribution is on this and how the chance of hitting it scales with stake.

I don't recollect them ever saying that? And we know it's not true as a number of RTP's are now public like this one (96.3).

On the contribution side, I'd guess with the 4-way layout and large gaps it would be in the region of 1% +/- based on Playtech's Marvel 4-way progressive games where the contribution is a tad under 1%.

Can anyone remember the 1million being hit on LOTR incidentally?

Where have they started publishing individual RTPs? Apologies if I've missed it.

If you look at the audit reports for 32Red, for example, it's just a single figure for 'slots'.

(I did see that Virgin Casino were listing individual RTPs for their MG slots, is that the source?)

Why not:confused:

The Marvel slots have Playtech versions at the same time as Intercasino had theirs, and Intercasino did not have to pull theirs when Playtech launched with them.

Funny you should say that; I'm not a big fan of this slot, but I decided to have a "passing shot" on it last night, as it could be the last time I will ever play it. Because of this I bet much higher than I would normally; £3/spin. Well I was just about to give up when I finally got the free-spins - and they were probably the WORST I have ever had on this slot - just barely over bet x 10... :eek2:
Now that definitely IS the last time I'll play it - withdrawn or not!
